Rumored Dana walked out of main event

Oh boo hoo, someone wasn't getting their shit pushed in every five seconds, poor Dana

Sandhagen did what he had to do. He got injured in the first round. What do you want him to do, lose? Yeah it wasn't exciting. It doesn't always happen the way we want.

This is the guy who is responsible for Frankie's head still orbiting the moon to this fucking day. And I know casuals boo, who cares. But you're the owner of your own damn company. Support your fighters-- this guy has a very good chance of being champion soon
Not to mention, Rob was a late replacement guy. Why would Sandhagen risk striking with Rob and getting clipped to potentially lose his ranking when he clearly knew he had the advantage on the ground? I would have done the same thing.

These “mma fans” are so fucking annoying. The guy has ONE boring fight and people shit on him throughout this forum. This is why mma “fans” are the worst. If there’s no knockout, the guy automatically sucks and is boring.

why are people bitching about this fight?

if you don't like grappling, you shouldn't be watching MMA. you have plenty of striking only events to watch.

The event had a lot of entertaining grappling exchanges, exactly zero were in the main event.

It was shit. Almost Carla vs Rose levels of shit.

Meanwhile lots of boxing fans are saying a 33 year old elite fighter should retire after the first loss of his career.

People overreact. It's not at all unique among MMA fans.

i thought it was pretty dope. i enjoy BJJ beyond a guy throwing a triangle attempt from the guard, though. i like passing, sweep attempts, i appreciate the control sandhagen displayed on the ground and i thought his takedowns were really clean.

This. It was just an unfortunate match up featuring a guy with zero TDD but very good defense from the bottom vs. a guy with good top control but limited top game offense. End result is a pretty shit fight.

The mma fanbase is the only one I know that feels the athletes are entitled to entertain them and will admonish them for prioritizing getting the win. MMA by its very nature is one of if not the most exciting sport out there, but the fans whine about “boring” the most. Just like every sport, there are bound to be some duds. But I don’t see baseball, basketball, etc. fans trashing the athletes when the match isn’t exciting. Very entitled fans in mma.

I get what you're saying but the athletes job is literally to entertain. Why would you ever invest in something that doesn't entertain you? I get what you're saying about getting the win being most important for the athlete but I don't get why you'd be confused about why fans want to be entertained.

Look.. it was a boring and non-eventful fight, but lets stop and think about that for a second. Is this a sport or isn't it? You can't have the prestige of a merited sport, while simultaneously judging competitions on how "entertaining" it is to drunk fans in bars like it's WWE. There are uneventful/boring NFL/NBA/MLB/soccer games, does that mean the players involved are bad and should be punished? or should be forced to change the way they play to be more entertaining and lower their chances of winning?

No, because in real sports winning by any means necessary is all that matters. Boring games happen in real sports, not every single game/contest/fight can be forced into being a highlight reel, or else what would be the point of a highlight reel? There have to be lowlights for there to be highlights. Dana booked the fight, he can only blame himself for not being able to predict it would go this way based on Cory having prepared to wrestle Umar + Font's inability to stop TDs or get up vs other opponents.

It was a horrible fight, that’s why people are bitching. Grappling version of Ngannou vs Lewis, nothing fucking happened don’t get what’s with all you hipsters telling people to watch something else when most people turned it off halfway thru.

such a dogshit fight

What was Sandhagen thinking? Surely he knew he was queued up for a title shot with a win? The UFC is gonna withhold that opportunity from him after that performance.

The problem with both of these takes is that - no the UFC is not a real sport.

I'm not telling you guys this because I'm against your opinion, I'm telling you because I actually agree and have fought this battle for a long time. But the reality is that the UFC continues to prioritize entertainment over merit in almost every decision they make.

It's bullshit, I get it. It's not the way it should be. But it is the way it is, unfortunately.

Every sport has duds and most more often than mma which in my opinion is the most exciting sport out there. But you never see fans of these sports demand the athletes play differently for excitement or call for them to be cut from the team when it’s an uneventful match. There’s an understanding getting the win is what’s important, entertainment is often a byproduct of that and that’s what we love, but is not a requirement from the athletes to jeopardize the win to do so.

Oh, I’m quite aware of this, you’re 100% right. But I’ll keep calling out the bullshit in hopes maybe one day it can be a legitimate sports league.

NOOOOO HE HAS TO DIE WHILE I EAT NACHOS

I was watching the Jake Paul fight.... so i really didn't see the UFC Main event.
How BAD was it?? I did see a bit of it and it was entirely on the ground in a fairly static position.

According to UFC stats, Font/Sandhagen landed fewer strikes than Rose/Carla in their rematch. The grappling was quite good but I can understand why people didn't like the fight. Especially the live crowd.

Corey has given us some spectacular KO’s so I don’t see how Dana could be so upset when this was Khabib’s fight every 18 months

It's why it took him forever to get a title shot. Nobody likes crotch sniffing minus the broke back folk.

I wish McGregor landed that knee.
