I think Jones just wanted to be the champ longer than Stipe.
Why do you guys keep ignoring that Jon said he was retiring after Stipe way back when Tom was still coming off his loss to Blaydes and wasn't even in contention.Or, just let go of the belt and let Tom move forward. It's a bitch move considering Shogun gave Jon the respect to challenge him
thing is Jon didn't retire in the cage, because he still hoped he might get the Peirera fight, meaning it took half a year for him to finally vacate the title. Why do you guys keep ignoring that Jon said he was retiring after Stipe way back when Tom was still coming off his loss to Blaydes and wasn't even in contention.
The Shogun comparisons are also just flat out dumb for so many reasons.
- Shogun was only 29, not 38
- Tom is 32, not 23 like Jon was
- Jon holds the record for most title defences in UFC history so has already given the most opportunities in UFC history for someone to take his belt
- Jon was a short notice replacement for Rashad who had the title shot and probably would've beaten Shogun
- Tom has more fights and has been in MMA way long than Jon did
You should really look into your talking points before just regurgitating them.
Jon's been saying since May 2023 Stipe was likely his last fight. Pereira didn't even win the LHW belt until November 2023, the very card Jon was expecting to have his last fight on.thing is Jon didn't retire in the cage, because he still hoped he might get the Peirera fight, meaning it took half a year for him to finally vacate the title.
and he changed his mind in the time between the cancellation of the Stipe fight and its rebooking, he clearly was interested in a fight with Alex.Jon's been saying since May 2023 Stipe was likely his last fight. Tom dodged a bullet
No that's not what it's aboutHe'll come back if Tom has a successful title defense that lasts more than 2 rounds.
He needs more tape on him. That's what this is all about.
Jon was out injured the entire length of Pereira's sensational 2024 run as champion, and then still went and had his Stipe fight anyways.and he changed his mind in the time between the cancellation of the Stipe fight and its rebooking, he clearly was interested in a fight with Alex.
Jon can say whatever he wants, but he does care. No matter how many times he talks about living his best life, that man is bothered by all the duck talk.He retired after he ducked. Never do that! Always retire before you duck (if you care what people say about your career)
You defeat your own points. Why do you guys keep ignoring that Jon said he was retiring after Stipe way back when Tom was still coming off his loss to Blaydes and wasn't even in contention.

It was always wishful thinking that MAYBE if Pereira got by Ank and wanted to move up that that might be enough to have Jon reconsider a plan he'd had since 2023. And probably since 2020 as he dropped the LHW belt the day after Stipe won the trilogy against DC.
Stipe has always been his endgame.
So who wants to start a pool for Jon's next crime now that he has all the free time in world?
I think beating up a Thai ladyboy is looking strong in the cards.
