Cyril Gane turned Ngannou into a panic wrestler, so how was Francis able to compete with fury?

i think Ciryl would do well in the HW division of boxing. especially if he could take a couple years off and prepare with expert coaches.

he doesn't have KO power. But excellent footwork and pretty good chin.

Gane had kicks and a lot of the game can change depending how you react to kicks and kick feints.
FFS there are so many wrestlers dominating standup off the doubleleg feint alone.

Different striking styles, different gloves, different distance, and different (read: wider) spatial configuration with the cage relative to the ring. There’s also the threat of knees, kicks and the thai clinch. Those are just the baseline distinctions.

Francis also came in with a legitimate injury against a dangerous albeit limited striking specialist who was intimately familiar with his game. Once he realized that he held a marked advantage on the ground, why not contest the fight there?

Not just one knee injury but he had basically destroyed virtually all tbe ligaments of his knee. He had no business even walking unaided let alone fighting the best kickboxer in the hw division in the ufc. Ngannou had the moxie to risk permanent crippling injury had gane found out and targeted that knee. Obviously nganou's mobility was severely impeded to say the least and he couldn't plant himself to generate punching power and he couldn't kick.

Exactly. Pretty much everyone who picks on Ngannou about how he fought against Gane seems to completely ignore this. Or if they actually acknowledge it, they deem it a bad “excuse”. Let’s see them box anyone with a bad knee. See how that goes. Especially when that someone is a very good kickboxer who will punish any fighter with mobility issues rather easily.

His knee was so badly damaged that it was basically held together by his tendons...

Alot had to do with Francis, alot with Fury as a specific opponent who doesn't conventially box either. Fury looked as bad or worse against John McDermott who Ngannou actually would beat and got the nod (I thought he beat ngannou)

But unlike retarded boxers and people who seem to not understand at all the differences in the sports, I like ngannou against wilder as well but think certain hw boxers (like joshua, ruiz, Anderson, usyk, zhang) will badly beat him and make it look easy.

I don't see why everyone jumps gun with stuff like that giving the opportunity to themselves for a feast of crow if ngannou boxes again and gets clobbered.

What he did was awesome...also Fury looked physically absolutely horrible. I know I know joe rogan says he always does... but go look at a few weigh ins of his against wilder, chisora...he had a fat belly and lower back but he looked physically strong. When he fought ngannou he looked and performed like absolute garbage. Kind of unique as one of the only top guys who actually occasionally comes in looking pathetic for a professional athlete.

UFC fighters go with highly ranked kickboxers often. They're not bad fighters. For some reason though kickboxers don't get respect like boxers do so everyone ignores this.

Gane has some pretty lacklustre boxing tbh without his kicks his striking is very much held back.

Nobody is saying that ngannou is an invincible boxer on the proof of this one fight. Styles make fights and his style is also horrible for Fury. His power and unfamiliar movements to most boxers made that worse. For sure there would be many boxers whose style would be bad for ngannou and on top of that they will study his game more carefully after this fight.

These fights were like 3 years apart and in different sports

Lol at MMA casuals who think fat Fury even tried in that charade of a fight.

Dude showed up in the worst shape of his career, hardly threw any punches, and still won the fight because Ngannou was too gassed to do anything after the 3rd lol.

Please educate yourselves.

Ngannou won rounds after the 3rd. Fury has a fight in December too so of course he's in shape, he wouldn't have wanted to get tired and get KO'd by a 0-0 boxer. Instead, he barely outboxed a 0-0 boxer.

I was a boxing fan long before I was an MMA fan, but this is very embarrassing for the sport. Denying this is denying a very blatant truth.

If you think Fury actually prepared for this fight or tried on any level, you have no clue about boxing or have never watched him fight.

Dudes a gypsy who cleverly went in MMA fans pockets because boxing fans are too educated to watch that charade. He’ll milk you guys on the rematch easily aswell lol.

Gane is very much a kickboxer and very good at it but he is not a boxer at all. Ngannoubon the other hand has alwaya had his core strength in terms of boxing fundamentals as adapted to mma.
