custom winning gear.

I can't speak for IMF type gloves, but from experience with every glove I've owned(quite a few), the weight is added to the length and width of the glove, not the front padding.

This ^

But it seems one can hardly apply it in this case.
On the other hand personally I do not use and will not use Winning for sparring. A waste of the nice gloves.
Some IMF or Rival RS-1 do a very decent job.

rskbreaker fundamental mistake was he thought your coaches know something about Winning gloves or at least tried them. Nothing could be further from the truth :)

Nothing can break the logic of somebody who thinks XX gloves are 14 oz., YY gloves are 16 oz. = YY are more protective. F**k such stupid details like the kind of padding (layered/IMF), the materials, density etc. who cares...

On the other hand still better than coaches who believe sparring in 10 oz. is the best you can do since you are fighting in 10 oz...

You can also add what he said. :icon_chee

Here is a 8oz and 12oz Fighting Sports gloves, trust me there is not 4 extra ounces of weight on the front of the glove. You'll notice what I mean when you get the chance to compare your 14oz to you 16oz Winning.

Understood, but like I said before...I can't change what my coaches think of the whole glove weight distribution thing. I can disagree with them, but it wouldn't maek a difference in the end. Maybe my coaches are old school...who knows. We did compare my 14oz to 16oz winning gloves..and there is only a slight increase in paddding for the 16oz.. They just want everyone to be on the same playing field. Also safety is always #1 in our gym.

And I'm actually grateful that they are looking out for our health. Anyways..we can go on and on about this lol.....

Seriously? I actually bought the winning gloves to use primarily for sparring.. Using them on the bag would wear them down quicker IMO..no?

And like others have said...gloves are meant to be used... I got gloves made for the bag

NO. They are not latex padded. Nor they are IMF. This is the basic mistake people make (incl. your coaches).
You can easily use them for everything without any downgrade. Unlike many other gloves (actually unlike almost all gloves).
Winning are very specific.

The only advice towards durability is vaseline before sparring (mentioned in another thread).

I see... I'm going to still use them for sparring though..if its good enough for the pros then ima use em lol

btw appreciate all the info from all of you guys.. good to know these things

Of course you can use them for sparring. The point is the guys in our gym do not deserve this favour lol

haha.. Its all good. Another person in my gym has some winnings and he uses them for sparring sometimes. It's all a matter of preference I guess. Plus im protecting my hands by using some of the worlds best boxing gloves. I feel like my hands are pretty brittle especially my wrist area. (Mayweather and Erik morales used Winning gloves for this main reason) Works for me

Anyways im bout to head out. Take it easy evryone !

It's all good. I understand where you're coming from. I might not agree, but you gotta respect your coaches decisions.

Absolutely agreed.
I would be hardly follow the instructions bad for my health (like sparring with 100kg guys wearing 10 oz crap), but these coaches do definitely mean it well.

The sooner and the more breathing the gloves get - the better for them.
Mesh bag is not a bad idea.

Forgot though and just remembered that on days where you enter the gym and then when you leave its turned to pourinf rain...you'll be f**cked with a mesh bag

Agreed, your gloves need to breath, not to drink

I still need to invest into Winnings sometime, Ive used them just never owned them.

I picked up some 10 oz Winnings while in Japan and sparred a bit at AACC with them. They feel great on pads and were ok for light sparring.

How much are winnings bought in japan when converted to USD? Is it much cheaper over there?

They were around $230. The more ounces, the more expensive they got. fs-martialarts sells the ones I got for $315.

I can assure you Mitani has the cheapest prices in the world. I did an extensive research. Some other distributors in Japan are close to him, but not cheaper.

However he has a 10% handling fee and naturally shipping abroad fee (both free within Japan). Nevertheless even cost + handling + shipping is often equal to what an average distributor in Japan charges for the gloves when you come to the shop.

Another question if anyone can solve it...

If you're ordering Winning Gloves off of Rakuten and you want to mention in the order to make the velcro wrist straps wider for better wrist support, what step in the order process will you have to give that information? Also, does asking Rakuten to get the larger wrist strap model add the 'custom' order charge of 30% or whatever it is?

I'm almost through picking everything out. Red FG-5000 2L with Moss Green Ears, Red 16 oz Velcro Spar, White 12 oz Velcro Bag/Mitts.

Thanks

Thanks
