custom winning gear.

Manny indeed spars in 14's. Probably just doesn't like big gloves (I mean he hits bags with 10's, even 8's at times close to fights). He can do it because he can, if you want to get in the ring with the champ, he sets the rules.

Was surprised to hear Floyd spars in 14's:eek:

I'm still trying to decide wheter to go for 14's or 16's for myself.

The thing is i would hate to get 14's and not be allowed to spar with them :(

Are 16's really huge..?

The 16's, imo, are not too big. But I agree with the fact that lighter weights like me (walk around at 135ish) should be allowed to use 14oz, especially if they are protective like winning.

What you should be allowed to do is what your coach wants to do...I think it's less up to the fighter (unless you're a professional fighter paying your partners) to be deciding what is the ideal weight to spar with. Talk to your coaches guys.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that Floyd was talking about his gloves and how he trains in 14oz winnings or something..

Does anyone know where i can find that video clip..?

Was it an episode of 24/7..?

I know you weren't specifically talking to me, but from my coach is where I developed the idea of lighter weight guys should be able to use different sizes.

Ive always been in a gym where the waiver states MUST wear 16s or heavier. I see your point but its not always like that.

Then that is fair Mega. All gyms are different. I'm not trying to call you or anyone else out, I'm just saying to those that are unsure and have not talked to their coach, they should do that before buying gloves of a smaller size than 16oz to spar with. If your coach has told you this and you're fine with it, your partners are aware of it, etc...then that's great. Go for it. Like others have mentioned, 14oz winning is much better than and 18oz walmart everlast in sparring. So the branding, not necessarily the size is important in that case. Good on you for talking to your coach. I'm assuming both sparring partners will wear the same size when you said your coach allows sparring in different sizes? Would be kind of weird to see a 14oz vs a 16 or 18oz in there lol.

Also cobe that probably was me or shihtzu... I posted the video where floyd shows all his gloves and talks about winning being the best. He has a variety of sizes. Two weeks ago he was hitting the heavy bag with 16s. He also hitts the mitts with 10's, 12's, 14's, 16's depending on how he feels. He switches it up my friend.

I just usually by 16oz and use them for everything, which if you own winning is just fine because they don't break down. Also why I uses to be a fan of hayabusa, great all around gloves.

training in 16oz isn't bad, but when it comes to accuracy (namely the DE bag, it allows you to get hits in where you normally wouldn't) For the heavy, 16s are perfectly fine imo.

For mitts I love using smaller gloves on smaller mitts because the target is more realistic that being said the smallest I ever go is 12s.

**With exception of my ringside IMF Pros**

Yea, ive only used hayabusa's on micro mitts but those gloves are pretty small. Haven't tried winning, but I don't really agree with the sentiment that they are big and pillow like

Here's how I go by it, especially when we're on training camp, if we're not in training camp, well then it doesn't matter. BUT.. here's how I go about it.

You have to balance it out, it's not about wearing light gloves on De bags and mitts. It's about volume of punches. Here's a simple breakdown.

-Lighter gloves=More punches and aggressiveness on the bag and everything.

-Heavier gloves= Picking shots and more boxing the bag instead of going aggressive like you would using 10's.

Around 2.5-3 weeks before the fight, it switches up.

I asked my coach if I could use 14 winnings as Pacquiao and Floyd does and I would guess I dont hit like them. He didnt want me to so I got 16oz reyes which dont protect as much as my 12oz winnings while he lets a 16-17 year old kid use 5 year old beat up everlast that had its padding reduced to cleto reyes fight glove feel.
Coaches are often full of shit unfortunately.

I've worn a 20oz glove and compared to a 16oz makes a whole lot of difference. The 20oz makes your hands tired faster.

Winning has a great way of spoiling you to regular gear (anything other than winning) lol. The pic. is the custom colors I got from ratkuten. Steve replied with a confirmation and total breakdown within minutes. 16 oz custom. Now I just have to wait a month.
