Rewatch Cro cop vs Nogueira

To go along with Nogueira's classic ass kickings from Fedor and his crazy comebacks against Sapp and Cro Cop, which people rightly talk about when the subject is Nog's insane durability, people often forget about/sleep on the shellacking that he took from Tim before getting that submission. Though, again, Tim was on the ground with him a bunch across those three rounds before Nog hit the beautiful sweep then caught that slick transition guillotine.

<mirkoice>
He took Tim down at the end of one of the rounds but the bell rang. Thats the only time I really remember him being on the ground with him before the finish

The Tim fight is a forgotten classic, which made Nogueira the interim HW champion. If he would have gotten to fight Randy next (who was off trying to fight Fedor)

He would have beat Randy like he did later and become UFC Champion, which is what these fucking anti prideFC dweebs (IMAGINE being anti prideFC!?!?!) dont understand/conveniently forget.

I just BAM hit em right in the mouth whenever I see em on the street.

Minotauro hespect is an IQ test many on this forum fail

That Mirko emoji should be added to the rest.

Is that a secret mods-see-only emoji? I pulled it from the "Sherdog's Own" section in the emoji dropdown. Right next to this classic: <haditcoming>

I haven't seen the fight in a long ass time, but I know Nog was doing his shot/pull guard combo because Tim had great TDD. I thought he did it a couple of times throughout, but it could've just been once early and once late.

I don't know, Nog's UFC run was weird. He looked slow and zombie-like against Herring and Tim, his chin finally seemed to crack against Mir, but when he fought Randy it was like he was the Nog of old. That fight was the best he looked at any point after 2004 IMO. If he would've fought Randy earlier, he might not have been able to do what he did as exceptionally as he did it. But, of course, those "What ifs?" with Randy chasing down Fedor, getting Gonzaga instead of Cro Cop, and fighting Nog later for no title...all of those match-ups against the PRIDE HW trio at different times would've been fun to see (not to mention the teased Wand fight at 205 while he was LHW champ!). But even as a huge Randy fan, it's nice that Nog got to notch that win in such impressive fashion.

I think Nog is just a bad matchup for Randy no matter when it happened.

Imagine being in the audience there at that fight. The Japanese fans have so much admiration and appreciation for the fighters.

This is also true. Nog's boxing was very crisp on the outside and he was so active with his sweeps and submissions on the ground, there was really no time or space for Randy to work his way into the clinch on the feet or work him over with GNP on the ground. Anything short of a perfect, flawless victory and Nog's either boxing him up on the feet or twisting him up on the ground.

I remember #1 on my bucket list in 2005-2007 was to one day go to Japan and attend a live PRIDE event. And then, just like that...

I was in Japan in October and one of my drivers was an Aussie who married a Japanese woman and has been living in Japan since 1999. I told him one of my biggest dreams was to attend Pride event. He replied with "I saw Fyodor vs Cro Cop live at Saitama." Oh man the stories this guy had and the way he painted the atmosphere and the aura in the air and the spirit of the Japanese fans. You can tell he was a reel fen of the sport. Not some Dana White stan WME era chump you see on Sherdog. I hespect of heem.

It is interesting to rewatch those old fights. Nog's takedowns are pretty bad and CroCop gave him that armbar. CroCop would wait until Nog stops circling and kept throwing those kicks that often landed.

But about every fight was a competitive battle.
He absolutely did not "give Nog thats armbar", Nogs ability to grab the arm and flip his legs across to complete it was a great very high level move.

Brather one day you and I are going try to kill eachother then drink beers together after and go to brathel together. Best friends 4 life.
This is the brathel tho

Imagine a guy getting beaten by prime Mirko for 10 minutes. Getting stuffed on 20 of takedowns and getting kicked in the face full power and nearly getting killed and then he goes out there in the next round and armlocks him in front of 60,000 fans and the narrative on sherdog is: "man he gave Nog that armbar"

🤡🤣
