Media Crazy stats: Olivera vs Khabib

So if Weidman decided to retire after Vitor, undefeated with 3 title defenses, he'd be GOAT level right?

He'd be up in third place, behind Silva and Izzy.

Lucky for Khabib LW doesn't have anyone with more than 3 title defenses.

It's weird how salty Oliviera stans are at Khabib for retiring. If anything they should be grateful he retired when he did. Oliviera got to be champion and defend the title. If Khabib had stayed Oliviera would likely have been just another contender.

You are not a Charles fan, you're just a Khabib fanatic trying to pretend you are a Charles fan to diminish him and magnify Khabib. Phony af. Khabib is nowhere near in Charles accomplishments, he is just a good fighter who chose to retire early because mama told him (lol, what a joke). "Coulda shoulda woulda" is dreamland and we are in the real world, and here Charles is way better and proved. Deal with it.
Yes I am, I just don't automatically say my favorite fighters are better than fighters I don't like lol. It's called being objective. Retiring undefeated as Champion is rare even if khabib didn't fight ALL the toughest people. I hate bj Penn but I think he is the 2nd best LW of all time based on his prime performances after Khabib.

I think Jose Aldo and Jones and Silva have a better resume than Khabib, but we are talking LW. I love Chuck, he is my favorite LW, I just dont agree that the stats provided by OP are reasonable to make any grand conclusions about. If Chuck beat Islam I'd say he'd be maybe a win away from being greater than Khabib by my standard. I root for Chuck every time it doesn't mean I think he is the greatest ever, I thought he'd lose to Islam even though I hoped he would win, and he did.

All this, to get soned by Khabib's youngin... <Fedor23>

"Yeah Oliveira has 9 losses, but if Khabib would have kept fighting he would have probably lost one day too"

The only thing I draw from that stat is that Khabib was extremely privileged by being backed by rich benefactors and an excellent MMA coach/manager. They created a career trajectory that was best for him and that allowed him to pull out of fights when he was not 100 percent healthy. Most fighters do not have that privilege.

It doesn't take away from his greatness though. It is what it is.

Im not tryin to be a dick here, but how is it a joke the honor ones family?
He said he wouldn't fight without his father, his father dies, and he makes a promise to his mother...and honors it.

Family might not mean that much to you but it clearly does to him, and that shouldn't be shit on tbf sir.....just my opinion of course.

Only the "stat" is wrong sir, so you really shouldn't draw too much from it tbh.

Correct me if I'm worng but Charles fought at multiple weights against UFC legends at a young age.
His 3rd UFC fight at the age of 20 against Jim Miller. 5th UFC fight at 21 against Donald Cerrone, 9th UFC fight at 23 against Frankie Edgar. He had a crazy wild start in the UFC, fed directly to the wolves. Of course, his record isn't perfect, but his accomplishments 100% put him in the hall of fame. More fights in the UFC alone than Khabib has in his whole MMA career. I think I'd rank him higher than Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Charles was killing himself to make 145 tbf.

Regardless of that stat lol, khabib was indeed very priviledged. Most fighters couldn't afford to have the amount of lay offs and pull outs that he had in a 13 fight ufc career.

Word.

And people say that Conor won the MMA game, but I don't think that's true. Well I guess he did, but really it destroyed him.

Khabib did the same, but then it seems has gone on to live a whole, holistic life. Has family time, helps others, and does not let the lure of more money or fame or grudges or pride draw him away from his decision to live that new life. That as well honours his father. It kind of stuck me when I saw the clip below.

I do think, as was noted below that with his backing he could cherry pick his career a bit. But he handled that better than Conor too.

And seeing as this thread is about Charles too, I agree with the post below:

Honestly Charles is a freak of nature. He's done it all and has some of the most accolades/bizarre records ever. Not to mention his LONGEVITY, it seems like he would outlast everyone because he came into his own wayyy deep in his career and he still looks incredible

Maybe he's not as unscathed as Khabib but he's gonna run off with these records and crazy future fights. Never could tell who was "better"

To rise again after defeats is super rare and a most incredible feat. Too many times a rising fighter is never the same after a single loss. To keep improving and succeeding as Charles has is to be super admired.
