COVER song thread!

The best cover I've ever heard is this one.

Pretty funny. A guy singing over the MIDI-version of this song being 100% serious.

I'll leave this as a palate cleanser just in case.

I'm wanting a cover of Let's spend the night together that sounds better than the Rolling Stones or David Bowie versions. Does it exist?

Is Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin the greatest cover ever? Does it rank in your Top 10? Top 5?

Heart did their cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center with many celebrities in attendance, Barack and Michelle Obama, and most importantly, Led Zeppelin themselves. The pressure must have been immense for Ann and Nancy Wilson to nail this perfect with so many big names watching.

Nancy starts with an acoustic version of the opening which in itself is a crazy amount of pressure. There is no place to hide if mistakes are made on an acoustic, every note has to be hit perfectly. The way that Heart builds from that acoustic opening to a full band sound including orchestra and choir for the climax of the song had Robert Plant basically in tears, he looked like he was weeping.

At the end, Heart gets a standing ovation including the members of Led Zeppelin which is the highest praise they could ever have for the cover itself. Just an amazing performance and Ann Wilson is ridiculous. People always talk about who is the best frontman of a band but maybe we should include a frontwoman on that list. Ann Wilson has the kind of range where she can pull off about anything and this cover is no exception. She is superb.

If you've never seen it I highly recommend watching Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin live at the Kennedy Center.

Gotta go with an all time favorite cover for me. Not the best, but my favorite none the less.....

The Highwaymen's version of Highwayman is much better than the original. Jimmy Webb wrote a fantastic song but didn't really know how to sing it.

Kim Wilde's version of You Keep Me Hanging On is much, much better than the version by the Supremes, which is passive and pathetic. Kim is angry and the instrumentation expresses it as well.

All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell.

Venus by Bananarama.

Elton John n Axl Rose doing Bohemian Rhapsody

Hurt cover by the Man in Black. Period. He took it from Reznor and made it his, forever. I don't even think people hear that song anymore first thru NIN, all thru Cash.

Another Top 5 all-time for me as for as cover songs is Stevie Ray Vaughn's performance of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child Live at the Austin City Limits. It is an ABSURD display of skill and showmanship. Seriously, this is another one of those, if you haven't seen it, you need to.

Reznor even admitted that the Song is Cash's now....

And wrt Heart: enjoy this sick live tribute

Gretchen Wilson would've made a good rocker chick, shame she went country
