Couture vs Nogueira

All "newer" fighters that have spent the majority of the careers in the UFC will have less total fights than fighters from yesteryear. It's not an age thing it's a UFC thing.

Whittaker, Adesanya, etc are never going to have 40 total fights in their careers ever despite being in their earlier 30s.
Hell Jon Jones is never going to have 40 fights in his career even though he's "only" 34. Why? Because he's been fighting for 14 years at this point. The dude is near retirement... because he's been fighting for a long ass time. He's old from a mileage standpoint.

Fighters generally cap out at around 10 years of fighting elite competition, and the simple reason for that is because of the wear and tear your body takes fighting competition that can rip you to shreds. Your body can only take that for so long.

While there is much truth to this, the frequency of fighting is related to monetary issues. Fighters at the top today fight less since they don't need to since they make bigger money. Back in the day even champions would want to compete 5-6 times a year to make as much money as possible, and that meant their records are more bulky.

Nog effortlessly reversed Randy with nothing more than his hips, right into mount, 15 minutes into the fight. Please tell me more about how Randy was the one nearer to his prime here.

Did you stop to think that perhaps Randy was concussed after being dropped twice with heavy punches with one of the knockdowns looking almost like a flash KO? Or do you expect a concussed fighter to perform the same way as a non concussed fighter? Unreal how this has to be even explained.

Secondly Nog had nearly 40 fights to Randys 26 and was half blind in one eye and got surgery on both hips soon after this fight.

I like both guys, enjoyed the fight, and thought they were both clearly on the decline. Randy had a hell of a layoff leading into that iirc.

idk whether Randy was juiced or not. definitely reasons to believe he might've been, but no exemption when they were allowed, no failed tests, so there's evidence otherwise too.

I'm not saying either were or weren't clean. I do think it's kinda silly to speculate Randy was on something, and not speculate the same for Nog, considering where he came from. ish was rampant in Pride.

Honestly I think Randy benefited from the fight happening when it did grappling wise, by this point Nog was really quite significantly slower and I think that really is what allowed Randy to survive on the ground with him.
This 46 year old Couture didn't manage to take Nog down once, though it went to the ground when Nog dropped Couture. Prime Couture would have more success taking down prime Nog than Ricco Rodriguez did, but it would've been interesting to see if his sub defense could hold up like the BJJ ace did against prime Nog.

I watched that fight live and it's definitely not a top 10 HW fight. Not by a country mile. Good fight and I gave Randy a round.

"Juiced"? No.

Filled to the brim with legal testosterone replacement? Yes.

Ricco was a vastly better sub grappler than Randy ever was although even he basically just tried to defend position from the top against Nog.

I think you can see Randy didnt really want to take the fight to the ground for fear of Nogs sub game, Nog tried to pull guard early in the fight and Randy backed off rather than enguage him. Latter in the fight he did follow when Nog pulled guard because he'd just been hurt standing again but he was swept fairly quickly.

Really I think Randy's sub game was always a bit of a weakness, he got found out quite badly when he went to Japan the first time and although it likely improved a bit after that really I'm not sure you can find many examples of him looking good on the ground vs a good submission fighter, did not look good with Barnett and Ricco ontop of him.

I don’t really see anyone mention this fight. Definitely a top 10 hw fight of all time imo. Where do you rank it?

hard to rank, but def one of the best fights ever. Should’ve been a 5 rounder.

Surprisingly Nog was in his early thirties when they fought

Holy shit Big Nog was only 32 years old. That dude seriously looked like he was in his mid 50's during that fight. Man that dude was seriously one of the roughest motherfuckers of all time in the history of the sport. Goddamned caveman for real.

Def some banana peels in there <36>
I cannot even begin to express what an absolute die hard Randy fan I was back then and even I knew Randy got his ass beat that night. A major upset but Big Nog showed up ready for fucking war with a chip on his shoulder as well for Randy that night. He rough-housed the shit out of Randy that night

It's a great fight but I wouldn't put it top 10.

Honestly, it's not even in the top 5 of just Nog's fights. His resume of great fights is pretty unbelievable.

give your list of top 10 HW fights of all time

and top 5 Nog fights

Yeah lol. For being 32 he was in rough shape.

It's clearly not in either but you sound like you disagree. Why don't you go ahead and tell me where you rank it.
