So it's not just the US that devolves to hoarding.

There was recently something of a similar thread, but yeah: food security is the most indispensable thing a sovereign nation can possess. What could possibly be more important than the ability to feed your population, especially if and when shit hits the fan? It's the foundation of human civilization itself and number one national security issue.

This pandemic also shows the sheer stupidity of nations over specializing in particular crops that depend on a global market for viability.

This virus has exposed the ultimate failure of globalization in general. This should have been a regional health scare, not a global pandemic.

    But muh cheap goods!

You really think either nation is gonna learn a viable lesson from this and enact real changes moving forward? Lol, no my friend. It will be mostly business as usual because people have short memories and profits conquer all.

As an American, I'll just sit and enjoy my plate of corn with a side of soy beans.

Less reliance on foreign production. One of the reasons I believe some of these larger corporations that mostly outsource overseas should be allowed to fail. Sacrifice a few to show the rest. Prioritize financial bailouts and assistance to those businesses predominately kept within our borders.

Nebraska currently has more cows than people.

An average 1000 pound steer on the hoof will usually yield somewhere around 430 pounds of retail meat.

By current estimates, we have 834,200,000 pounds of available beef in our state alone.

(Correction: I was working off of an older number, Nebraska currently has 6,150,000 cows, bring the total for possible poundage of retail beef at 2,644,500,000)

Im pretty most farmers would rather see their neighbor starve than having to lose their income over export restrictions though.

So yeah, i doubt we will see any problem over here.

The thing i love about crisis is how it turns right wingers into socialists.

Thats why i like center Democratic presidents, they make Republicans to actually do what they preach.

Whether or not I agree with bailing out any business, I realize it will happen regardless. If that's the case, then a sensible approach to how its done that benefits the nation as a whole is my preference.

If there is a food shortage and you think a certain politcal party is to blame is it okay to eat members of that party?
