Cory Sandhagen is extremely overrated

It's all relative, depends how you rate someone to determine if they're overrated or not. Cory is a fighter that didn't start early in life and has no athletic gifts and his build is predisposed to be taken advantage of by takedown artists. He is a dude who's elite in the UFC but I could totally see losing to a lot of guys outside of it. People who thought he'd be a champion were massively overrating him, people who thought he was a big knockout threat for laying out completely washed Edgar and a guy like Moraes were for sure overrating him. But he is good enough to beat guys like Chito, Bautista, Yadong which is elite.
Tbh not sure he beats yadong anymore

I agree but hard to see him beating Umar or merab. Yan fight was a game of inches
With both Umar and Merab I think it's just a matter of game planning right and setting up a shot that will allow him to go in for the kill when the opportunities are there, or when he makes them. I do think this would all be applied easier against Merab then Umar, but Cory's 32, he has a couple of years left to make something happen IMO.

I know people complain about too much gambling advertising on TV these days, but this is the perfect example of the utility of betting lines.

Cory Sandhagen has had 14 UFC fights. On the betting lines, Sandhagen was favored to win 10 of those fights, and was the underdog in 4 UFC fights.

Sandhagen in fact has a 10-4 UFC record.

Of those 10 wins, only one was an upset (against Lineker). Of those 4 losses, only one was an upset (against Dillashaw).

The fact is that Sandhagen has won 90% of the fights he was favored to win, and has only won 1/4 fights he was expected to lose.

Verdict: OP is objectively wrong.

OPs feelings don't care about factual reality.

Sandhagen just isn't the killer he's hyped as. He tends to fade or let fights go from his control. I feel he'd be much better if he had more killer instinct and knew when to pour it in his opponent.

I blame him for giving TJ a titleshot when he easily could've won that fight with more aggression. TJ vs Aljo was a sham, I can't believe TJ was cleared to fight his last 2 fights.

He is 5'11 but fighting at 135 pounds while Mike Tyson was 5'10 and HW champion.

I thought he beat TJ and I think he'd beat Sean
Thought he lost to TJ FOR SURE. TJ landed lots of heavy leg kicks and combos in that fight too, and did damage against the fence.

People misremember this fight, Cory easily could have won, but like Strickland vs DDP, just didn't throw enough even though he looked far cleaner of the two when he did.

The fight reminds me a lot of DDP v Strickland, one was the slicker striker, but the other guy wanted it way more and clinched it due to the slicker striker not putting a stamp on rounds 3 and 5.

I remember thinking Cory landed more strikes and did more damage at the time. I only watched it once though

He's legit he didn't just lose to those guys he was competitive .

He did more damage overall but not in key moments. Notably round 5. That round was crucial, he was fresher, less hurt, landed more accurately but just didn’t throw though

TJ didn’t back pedal or stall.

HW is so weak rn an armbar is considered a standout technique
