Cory Sandhagen is extremely overrated

This thread features countless people having meltdowns for people accurately pointing out that Cory isn't the best, has repeatedly been proven to not even be 2nd best, and will never get to either at this point.

So yes, clearly there are people pretending Cory is something more than he is.

You seem to be the only one who’s having a meltdown. He’s ranked #4 which is pretty accurately rated and therefore not overrated.

he's a gatekeeper. worse than alex gustaffson was tbh

i mean yeah maybe he'd be champ if the division didn't have: Merab, Aljo, Yan, Umar, Dillashaw. 2 of those guys have retired or left the division.

He cannot beat any of the top guys. He lost to Aljo, he lost to Yan, he lost to Umar

You can argue he win the TJ fight but TJ was coming off a 2 year layoff, dealing with arm injuries, tore his knee in the first round and cory still made it close enough for the judges to give TJ the win

The only guys he beats are guys who have been whooped much worse by the other top contenders.

Vera got completely outclassed against O’Malley and got dropped by Figgy. Cory took him to a boring decision where he never committed to any of his strikes

Font was getting bobbed around by Aldo, Figgy AND vera. Sandhagen couldn’t do anything to him, yes he was injured but that’s no excuse for a win based entirely off control time.

Lost the first two rounds against song and only started to win as song lost more and more blood. Yan throughly outclassed song with a torn groin and meniscus from the very first minute

Plus he in my humble opinion got gifted a decision win against a 5 foot 3 lineker. Argue about the philosophy of when you call a fight a robbery all you want, I didn’t agree with the decision so I’m counting it against him. Rocked and outgrappled by a guy he had 8 inches of height on

Can only knock out an old man like edgar who was on a 3 fight losing streak at 38, and moraes who was on a 2 fight losing streak, and would then lose another 6 fights in a row
Cory is the Dustin Porier of 135. Good enough to maybe get the interim belt but not the real thing.

And yet everything TS said was true, and people are still mad at it.

No, everything he said isn't true. Per the odds and the sentiment, Cory wasn't expected to beat Umar or Merab. So AT BEST he'd be looked at as third or 4th best in the division. Which he is. So "overrated" isn't true. People aren't "mad", you dolt. They're wondering what the point is of making an inaccurate thread.

Of course, the motivation is likely just silly hate.

But Rogan says Dorky Sandbuggin is the smartest fighter in the world.

Crazy, coked out midget Rogan knows…

You can not be “elite” at anything and still be an elite fighter.

You're arguing with another drooling, inbred waste of oxygen FYI.

There's likely 3 guys in the division on earth that can beat Sandhagen right now, but somehow he's not elite lmao? The level of stupidity to think that way is quite something.

Lol at O'Malley was competitive

Guess that makes you an O'Malley superfan

You took my comment out of context. I was saying if getting a 49-45 decision loss is "competitive" then a 49-46 and a 48-47 must be as competitive then! I don't care for omalley at all either and the fight was of course not competitive but he had "moments" but every fight has "moments" but cory fans take these moments and make it sound like it was way closer or better than it was.

Cory landed more significant strikes on Merab than O'Malley did...in both of his fights with Merab combined.

Merab clearly beat them both but outside the minute in rd 2 where he had Cory hurt (and he legit did hurt him, something I admittedly didn't think was likely AT ALL), Cory passed the eye test way more than O'Malley did.

Neither were that good.

Dustin won it off Max’s 1st ever and unprepared 155 fight and not another LW contender, and Cory literally lost an interim title bout.

There’s nothing wrong with just being a top 5ish guy.

That there’s only “likely 3” says more about the state of the division division than Cory’s skills. And I don’t even agree with that take that it’s only 3. Merab and Umar alone were confirmed in the last year.

He’s got like 7 losses from taking on the elite since he began doing so in 2020. And he’s now a 33 year old BW who heavily relies on speed and explosiveness which isn’t going to end well.

Cory is never getting another (gifted) title shot again and is likely to lose like half of his next fights until his retirement.

He was a good, exciting, active, fighter and there’s nothing wrong with that being his ceiling. Pretending otherwise is silly.

Harsh, but I have to agree. I would absolutely expect that corey would lose to more than just 3 people... I for sure think he could lose to bautista in a remach, O'malley, Yan, Merab, umar. All losable fights for him.

He's good. Top 5 sounds about right. People who expected him to be a champ were probably overrating him a bit indeed. He's been top 5 for like 5 years now and that seems to be his peak. Interestingly, I feel like his grappling has improved, yet his striking has degraded, leaving him at about the same spot in the division that he's been in for years.
My thoughts exactly, as a Sandhagen fan.

unless you have to fight him.

I would totally destroy him leaving my local gym high on melted cheese but some of you might not.

Almost nobody thinks he's outside the top 5. Acting Ike Bantamweight is some dogshit division void of talent is disingenuous too.

You clowns are so transparent. As if he has to be the champ or 2nd best fighter to be considered "elite". Wanna guess how many active BW's on earth righ now? The fact that only a few can beat him means he's elite. This isn't complicated.

Cory’s been around the top 5 for 5 years now and has taken 6 losses whenever he tries to advance to the top end of the division in contender or title fights. It’s not just right now. It’s been the entire time he got to this level.

He’s a good, fun, exciting fighter, but we’ve known his ceiling for years. Especially now that he’s 33 at BW and has a style heavily reliant on speed and explosiveness that’s going to leave him. There’s nothing wrong with being a fighter like him.
