Law Coronavirus the US GOV'T Response analysis Thread

No, I'm arguing with you. I didn't say Washington needs to be quarantined, I said it's the Wuhan of the US. Formerly #1 with most cases and earliest hit. Italy has been hard hit, and was the new epicenter and it has a lot of cases, like NY. Which is why NY is the Italy.

I would agree with this assessment. WA has massive Chinese investment, and obviously we are a hotspot for shipping from Asia, being on the west coast.

You can never be truly prepared for random pandemics, but you need to have the basic materials in order to make an effective response.
What those Asian countries have are a national medical care system, coherent leadership/messaging, and a population that listens.

The US has a shitty healthcare system, has had incoherent messaging, information, and leadership on dealing with the virus, and that has emboldened a bunch of dumb people to be even dumber and not take it seriously.

US healthcare system actually seems to be holding up nicely comparatively speaking. Especially against Europe as a whole.

SK culture is in stark contrast to the US and Europe. Does not surprise me at all that they are able to fight this and still largely go along with daily life. Even going to the gym.

Asian countries have had to deal with this and are therefore more prepared

And again, Trump does say incredibly stupid shit daily

Wuhan was a death zone. They were locking people in buildings to contain the infected. It was the hardest hit area in all of China

That is not WA. Not even close.

NY is Americas Wuhan just like NY is Americas Lombardy

Wuhan is a territory/province/state/city of a larger country(China)

Same as Lombardy

Italy is a country, NY is not

Wuhan is a city and Washington is a state, but I made the comparison anyway. And I stand by it. You can have your own opinion, just don't go to Church on Easter or you'll be part of the new Daegu, even though Daegu is a city and Easter is a holiday.

Nothing has "emboldened" anyone. People simply aren't taking it seriously. It's not a uniquely US thing, that you seem to think it is, for obvious TDS reasons. Here in Canada, it's the same deal. Where is your Trudeau bashing, that his messaging has been incoherent?

Maybe in SK they're more subservient to their government's wishes, but in the west, we'll take what you give us. If the social distancing isn't being legally enforced and amounts to nothing more than a suggestion, then it's not going to be taken all that seriously. The only thing that will stop people from going about their business, is legal consequences.

They have had periods of being closed.
Mines was closed for 2 weeks, and many others have been as well.

South Korea hasnt had to do much in terms of forcing people and businesses to do things because Koreans have actually listened to what the experts say and have been cautious.

Even though gyms are open right now , as are most businesses, people have mostly stayed away, and if they do go out, they take precautions to lessen their chances of getting or spreading the virus. There are hand sanitizers literally everywhere--even in random elevators. And you have to wear a mask while in the gym if you go.
Many gym classes have been cancelled.
But even though the gym is open, there arent a lot of people going.

I have 4 family members in SK. Their gyms(2 different ones) were never closed. And they say traffic is down just a bit

But yea, they do say the populace does use great hygiene and hand sanitizer is all over.

My gym had 3 employees always cleaning equipment. There were 4 hand stations also.

Why would I go to church when I'm an atheist?

I never expected to change your mind or for you to stop arguing over NY, WA, Wuhan, Lombardy(Italy) or anything

I learned long ago people will argue til there last breath in the WR

Because you want to be part of the new Daegu? Which is a city, and not a holiday, but I made the comparison anyway.

I learned several posts ago that you like arguing with me.

I'm just amazed the US is keeping its mortality rate close to SK and much better than the bulk of Europe. I mean with our shitty evil healthcare system and Europes utopian healthcare system. Never mind the fact that the US is full of obese fast food eating slobs

My post was pointing out that I do not go to church. Had nothing to do with Daegu. You seem to be trying to push this because your original arguments made no sense.

Look up Lombardy and you will start to understand this more.

But I'm also ok with saying WA is the US Wuhan if it makes your day better and will put a smile on that face

See here I agree with Trump , Cuomo is way to lax about people moving around , no one should be leaving NY unless involved in an essential service , call it a lockdown or quarantine or whatever , people moving about too much will just prolong this

I agree about travel but Trumps statement that New Yorkers travel to Florida is to much. He has major investments in Florida he could care less about South Carolina, Massachusetts other areas that New Yorkers travel.

Unacceptable': Dems Fume After Trump Announces Plan to Refuse Congressional Oversight of Corporate Bailout Funds
"This is a frightening amount of public money to have given a corrupt admininistration with zero accountability."

Democrats:

Literally handed Trump $500 billion and now act shocked and surprised Trump easily dismissed the oversight provision. Good luck finding a "liberal judge" to strike this down when there are none because Democrats from Obama's presidency to Carter's have bent over backwards appointing conservatives to the bench.

The Democratic leadership is rotten to the core and proven impotent over and over again.

I knew it, you have fallen in love with arguing with me. I understand, many cannot resist it.

My point was you might want to be part of the new Daegu. Which you have not actually denied. Atheist or not, you can be the American patient 31. Infamy has its own attraction I suppose.

So you want me to say that Washington is Huabei and New York City is Lombardy? is that it?

I don't think the South Koreans saw it as a matter of subservience. They merely seemed to have learned their lesson after previous outbreaks, and prepared studiously in response.

And that's why they didn't need to enact lockdowns and quarantines like America has, thus shutting down their economy for a protracted period of time.

It's like that nation has a more intelligent populace that sees incompetence in leadership as............not being needed............

When Trump and the FOX news brigade go on TV and downplay the virus, call it a hoax, say "just wash your hands and youll be fine", yes, they are giving stupid people the green light to be stupid. They can go outside without fear because of the dumb shit Trump and company were saying
There has not been a coherent message on this from Trump or the media.

I didnt say it was a uniquely US phenomena. Italy seems to have a similar problem. Which is why just having a national health care system isnt enough if you have shit leadership and people that dont listen. What is more unique to the US is that they have all 3 of the problems I listed.
Im not Canadian. And I dont pay much attention to Trudeau or Canadian politics. I have no idea how Canada has been handling this.

It isnt about being "subservient" to government. It's about getting coherent information from your leadership and doing the common sense thing of following it for you and your neighbor's protection. The information about this has actually not been coming from the president, but from a doctor.
And 2 of the last Korean presidents are currently in prison, and the current president isnt popular--so it isnt about being government slaves, its just some common sense and respect for your neighbor. People in the west would have an easier time not being selfish a-holes if you werent getting wildly different information from the media and government.

Uh. You mean Hubei? Lol

You tried bro. I mean you really did.

Except the liberal media, NY politicians and the WHO were downplaying it just the same if not more

No. Like not attributing all those dying as COVID caused. There is a thread about it and some are getting pissed because they think Germany is fucking with the numbers

From the article... the one you’re saying “no” to.

Drosten, whose team of researchers developed the first COVID-19 test used in the public domain, said Germany's low fatality rate is because of his country's ability to test early and often.

He never called it a hoax.

And what's your reasoning for damn near every other country with the exact same guidelines, acting the same way?

Again, you want to put some unique responsibility on Trump, and excuse every other nation for behaving the same way. All you're proving is that you have TDS. The goddamn WHO told everyone it wasn't a big deal. You don't care though. It's all Trump's fault, because again, you have TDS.

Lord

There is a separate thread on this. Germany is WAY tighter on what they consider a COVID death. Go check out the thread.
