Law Coronavirus the US GOV'T Response analysis Thread v2

I was one of the fear mongerers in early Feb because the data showed a fatality rate range between 2% and 47% (Feb 2 numbers). Wuhan shut down, which was unprecedented, so we had to take this seriously.

However, now we know the true fatality rate is very close to the flu, between 0.1% and 0.5%. SARS was worse, at 2%.

Therefore, we need to put an end to this shit. The Chinese and Russians appear to have pulled a massive social media experiment on us, and we bought it. We trusted the data before, and we need to continue to trust the data now. The data says this thing is over.

  • Russia must prepare for worst-case coronavirus scenario: Putin
Russian president orders officials to hire more staff to deal with pandemic as daily cases rise by record 2,558.

The coronavirus situation is getting worse in Russia, President Vladimir Putin acknowledged on Monday, adding that the Defence Ministry's resources, such as assistance by military medical staff, would be used to tackle the crisis if needed.

Putin, who was speaking at a meeting with senior officials broadcast on state television, said the situation was constantly changing and that the next few weeks would prove decisive in its battle to halt the contagion.

More:
He said preparations must anticipate "any possible scenarios, including the most difficult and extraordinary".

Putin ordered officials to recruit additional personnel from universities and medical schools.

Russia on Monday reported a record 2,558 daily rise in coronavirus cases. At least 148 people have died with the virus.

Moscow, which is tightening lockdown measures with mandatory passes for travelling around the city, accounted for about two-thirds of all cases.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova reported to Putin that Russia had 40,000 hospital beds for COVID-19 patients and plans to increase the number to 95,000. She said infections have been growing steadily by 16 percent to 18 percent a day.

Another 140,000 people throughout the country were under medical observation on Monday morning on suspicion that they could have contracted the novel coronavirus, a federal monitoring service reported.

Most of Russia's regions have followed Moscow's lead and imposed similar measures, advising residents to stay home unless absolutely necessary.

Putin reiterated support for the lockdown quarantine measures on Monday as justified. He said last week that there is "no other choice" than self-isolation to prevent the spread of the disease.

The president has been working remotely, his spokesman announced earlier this month, after a doctor with whom Putin had recently shaken hands tested positive for the virus.

What amazes me is half of Boston's homeless population tests positive with no symptoms, and instead of saying "oh, looks like this virus is 100x less fatal than we thought, maybe we can go back to work" instead our response is "oh no! The virus is more prevalent than we thought! We need more social distance!"

They need to teach statistics in high school because most people are retarded when it comes to this.

What about this data?
Coronavirus kills more Americans in one month than the flu kills in one year.

You are fixed on the fatality rate without addressing the R0 Number compared to normal flu. They work in tandem.
Plus, since it's a novel Coronavirus there is no vaccine and no herd immunity.

So if the fatality rate is double normal flu (say 0.2% to 1%) and the R0 number is double normal flu (say 2-2.5) then Covid19 is 4 times more deadly than normal flu. That's 132'000 deaths compared to 34000 deaths and It looks like the US is on target for that number.

The straight-up number of deaths so far tell you it's more devastating than normal flu season, and that number includes the unprecedented social changes to try to contain it which will have reduced it's numbers. Social distancing is an attempt to address the R0 Number not the fatality rate.

I was just thinking that. Skaters don't give a fuck. They've been skating against the rules since...forever. LOL @ some sand stopping them.

Lets see how the little cunts handle baton rounds

Well it turns out there is small amounts of evidence that the recent flurry of "anti-lockdown group" is backed by Betsey Devos and other right wing billionaires who are in direct contact with the Trump administration officials. They are hitting key swing states especially in Michigan where the push is hardest. The Governor of Michigan is reportedly high on Biden list of VP picks.

"Thousands of people are preparing to attend protests across the US in the coming days, as a rightwing movement against stay-at-home orders, backed by wealthy conservative groups and promoted by Donald Trump, continues to take hold."

"

Conservative activists are demanding governors lift orders designed to stop the spread of the coronavirus, despite the recommendations of public health officials. Trump, who has clashed with Democratic governors over how soon to reopen the US economy, tweeted his support on Friday, in an unprecedented endorsement of civil disobedience by a sitting president.

Many of the planned rallies have been inspired by a protest at the Michigan state capitol on Wednesday, which was attended by thousands."

As a Canadian, I must admit that I'm a little bit selfishly happy to see various American states taking a variety of different courses of action. I say that without sarcasm or malice. America, right now, is about to run an extremely comprehensive experiment on our options for dealing with the virus.

The rest of the world gets to watch, in real time, to see what works best, in an overall sense (considering not just the spread of the virus, but also the economy, education, freedom, etc).

Americans are a different breed. They don't follow anything blindly. They don't take trade-offs with their rights and freedoms lightly. Whether we agree or disagree in particular instances, we really do need to be more appreciative.

Well... but the country is full of skeptics and conspiracy theorists and libertarians and isolationists and individualists... not to mention the vegans and anti-vaxers and environmental activists and pacifists, et cetera et cetera... no?

They really don't just all fall in line the way most populations do.
