I genuinely fear this virus might be the end of us. There will be lots of businesses across the world especially travel ones that will go bust. Billions being shaved off stock markets on daily basis. If you guys still don't see it then I pity all of you.

I don't think it will be the end of us, but it's gunna hurt - really, really badly

I’ll find the chart. The issue is with latency in testing which causes the stress on the healthcare system. If you test, confirm, isolate and trace— you slow down the spread. If you fail to do those things you then overload the system and you get more of an exponential growth hit. Which is what we are seeing in Italy, Iran, France etc.

USA has done an abysmal job at any testing whatsoever. Now, instead of tracing and tracking, we basically said F it let it ride. Which will cause panic and healthcare system overload. This will increase the chances of higher mortality rates as well.

Edit: how do you post pictures from your phone?
we have enough infections going around, and likely 10's of thousands infected in the US

I've yet to see an uptick in chest illnesses, and there is no latency in that regard. I looked at the data for the previous four weeks, and it's around -1% in chest illnesses, not a significant amount.

unborn kids? Wifey at 20 weeks which is my concern with Corona. If it was just me and her I’d be a lot more relaxed about everything and just taking it in stride.

I have seen that for whatever reason kids seem less affected so hopefully community spread in my area can just hold off until July
Same. I got a kid coming in the next 7 weeks. Otherwise I wouldn't be worried as much. We also don't have much data on how it affects newborns.

well, your wife getting sick will influence the baby. if she's over 35, I would keep her home, women that old having kids is generally more likely to have problems. Younger than that, probably ok.

only case I know of was a 45 day old that made a full recovery in South Korea

So at least the lone data point that could be nothing but an outlier is good news at least

In a close to home question, anything beyond “probably worse than the average person, possibility but unknown to transfer to baby” for if a pregnant woman catches Corona?

guessing not much and google pulled up a few unclear cases. But maybe someone looking into this more than me has come across something more concrete
Good thinking to be checking. This looks like it might be a start:

But this isnt an infection heavy area, zero cases in my city and only 30 in the province of 14.5million. Its a ridiculous overreaction
I suggest anyone who can watch the w5 on Wuhan city. It’s a bit of both perspectives.

That must be really trying & worrying man, I feel for you.

My wife still suffers from pretty bad asthma, I know she'll be affected way worse than I. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be anywhere near as concerned as I am

Can't be losing her you know

If you get a mild case of it is it like the cold where you can get it again in months?

it's a shame that the US doesn't try to follow their lead.

It's really not possible for the US to do so.

South Korea is roughly the size of Indiana and has a population of 52 million. Roughly 42% of the population lives in 6 cities.

We might be able to pull something similar off in certain areas like New York, LA, and Chicago, but the whole country?

The city best equipped to do this would be Houston. Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world.

I love how the kid starts yelling papa! papa! and then the dad leaves him behind as he runs. <45>

The CDC quarantine station map agrees with you:

Well, he didn’t suggest that, but don’t let that fact stand in the way of a good outrage tweet

Let's be honest, the U.K. and the U.S. have no intention of trying to stop this or even slow it down.

I dont think you understand the numbers. South Korea has the highest number of infected people, no amount of isolation changes that.

China still has the highest number of infected people at 80,859; South Korea has 7,134 according to the latest sitrep from the WHO:

https://www.who.int/docs/default-so...0308-sitrep-48-covid-19.pdf?sfvrsn=16f7ccef_4

The X-factor is Iran. No one knows how many infected people they have. And with their government in full blown panic and suppression mode, we may never know what the situation over there is.

What do you think should be done differently?

Either way, my comment was regarding that tweet that claimed Johnson said something that he didn’t.

Doctor friend has been on hold with the CDC for 30 mins. Patient with obvious signs, recent travel to Seattle

This has been the most bullshit response by our government you could ever draw up.
