Contender Series 2024 thread

Torrez Finney is one of my top prospects outside of the UFC. Yeah he's short for the division, but he's an absolute beast.

I was pretty surprised that he didn't get a contract after his performance last season, and I'm really looking forward to next Tuesday.

Same. I like him. Think he finishes him and gets the contract he weirdly didn't get last season.

If Cunha does use his wrestling, last fight I watched he was throwing looping overhands trying for a KO. The other guy didn't go down and I do not remember his shots to be noteworthy later on in the fight.

I don't think hie wrestling is good enough to beat Kuniev either.

Week 6 (September 17)

Benjamin Bennett vs Joey Hart (WW)

Don't really know much about either guy. Both of them are 6-1 professionally, but Bennett has an extensive amateur career, going 17-4 with a win over Axel Sola. I've only seen him fight once, a KO loss to Trey Waters. I know precisely nothing about Hart.

The other fight has some Japanese MW I have never heard about at all and I sometimes browse through tapology on the japanese circuit when I am bored.

How do they find some of these guys lol

I was rooting for Finney because he's a wrestler. But I not only agree with Dana, I agree with the way Dana phrased it, even if it sounded harsh, it's a message wrestlers need to hear.

He should have gotten multiple fights in, in the last year. He only got one, and it was not a fight where his mettle was really going to get tested. I think so many wrestlers overvalue the "O", the "undefeated" title, even if the win column has only 5 fights and 4 were cans.

Maybe you lose a fight, very embarrassing. They were in the MW division, look at the MW king who just fought last week. Dricus Du Plessis took hard fights before he entered the UFC. He even lost two of them. But that didn't derail is career, it gave him the necessary experience to win once he got into the UFC, and become a UFC champ. Finney needs more fights like the tough fight he had against Rowston tonight, because that's where the development comes from.

They found some obscure HW from Brazil to get this kid inside the UFC quick, the guy has a loss against a bantamweight years ago. I don't mind it I found Teixeira's fights that I have seen to be very exciting.

I also saw Latu's name around browsing Tapology before, He seems to be mainly a striker and his opponent seems to be the same. I expect this fight to be pretty exciting.

Yeah Lopes' record is weird and bad. He really has no business being on the Contender Series.

Besides the loss to a BW(!?!), be also has no good wins. His last two opponents were 3-4 and 7-6, and two of his wins are over guys that aren't even on Tapology.

They are not playing around getting Teixeira in the UFC. I am also puzzled how he lost to a bantamweight? Maybe he used to be super scrawny and just bulked up. I swear to god if this guy manages to land the lucky punch of the century I will not recover from it.

Other people got some tough tasks ahead of them, like Steele vs Ottoni is a matchup that could already be on a prelim. Mario Pinto for example got a seemingly way tougher opponent. They also gave Vakhitov the guy who I remember for headkick KOing some cocky guy on the French PFL card.

I wonder if they match exciting prospect, they consider must haves, with easier fights and the other guys get matched evenly so a strong fighter comes out guaranteed.

It was probably openweight and the guy was like 160 and he was 220 or something.

Regional MMA is sometimes very loose with weight classes.

Rafael Cerquiera has been signed outright, and will be fighting Ibo Aslan in in Abu Dhabi.

Mansur Abdul-Malik has already been booked - he's fighting Dusko Todorovic.
