Conor vs Poirier why not Connor vs Gaethje?

Sorry haven't posted in a while but why is Conor rematching Poirier other than fighting Gathje? I'm not even excited for the rematch here... Anyone else feel the same?

cause conor doesnt want justin to kick his ass. notice he picked cowboy over justin at ufc 246.

He'd KO Justin. People hate Conor.

But It is about time people get reminded how good this dude is.. Then the excuses will pour in again..

funny how conor doesnt think that or guess who he would of fought at ufc 246,.

WTF are you on about. Poirier is the best possible opponent in the division now that Khabib has retired.

Conor knows he would not be able to overcome durability and wrestling of Justin so he won't take this matchup...

Are you daft?

Justin Gaethje was KO'd by former lightweight champions, Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez — both of whom were KO'd by Conor.

Conor lost Khabib in a much more exciting fight than did Poirier and Gaethje. Gaethje was basically blown out of the water. Nobody really cares about Gaethje anymore,

Although Poirier is essentially a beta-level fighter, he's closer to being a champion than Gaethje, especially after vanquishing Dan Hooker.

This fight is basically to give Poirier one last chance to become champion, but mostly it's to get him KO'd again, and reestablish Conor.

Conor will likely then be gifted with an easy KO win over Gaethje, After which is going to be tested by Olivera.

I'm not going to claim that I think Conor should be fighting Justin, I think the Poirier fight makes more sense. That being said your logic is terribly flawed. People said Conor would KO Khabib and we saw what happened, that's a terrible reason to not make a fight.

Your an expert on what he thinks? Everyone in the fight game has a story about who ducked who, and why? Cowboy once said Conor would never fight him.

Justin is coming off a loss

Why would he fight Justin right now? I never said he should not fight him. I said I think he’d win fairly easy..

We know that McGregor wanted to fight Sanchez of all people <Lmaoo>.
He wanted to fight anyone. Dana has blown through some of Conor’s prime because all he cares about is the Khabib rematch..

He wanted to fight anyone.
And yet the first name that McGregor offered was Sanchez.

Dana has blown through some of Conor’s prime because all he cares about is the Khabib rematch..
Firstly, McGregor is not in his prime.

Secondly, McGregor himself wasted the last several years all on his own:
2017, McGregor fought one time in a boxing match and lost.
2018, McGregor fought one time in MMA and lost.
2019, McGregor retired (second time).
2020, McGregor fought one time in MMA, then retired (third time) when he couldn't fight Sanchez.

Covid also affected things in 2020, lot of cancelled events, so it's hilariously unfair to put that on Dana's shoulders too.

cant be champ if he never fights for the belt again.
If Nate Diaz and Jorge coming off convincing one sided defeats can fight for a title against each other again I am sure Champ Champ with KO wins in three divisions and the single biggest draw in mma history can fight for a title whenever he pleases (assuming ufc pays him enough)

Gaethje changed his style after the Alvarez and Poirier loss though and has looked much better. The same way Conor changed his style after the Nate loss.

Gaethje changed his style because Donald Cerrone is a non-threat, and Tony Ferguson was hit hard enough to make him back off.

This non-pressure allowed Gaethje to "change his style."

Khabib wasn't going to "allow" Gaethje to do anything. He put the pressure on his ass, made him panic, made him back-up, and made him fight in basically total desperation ... because Khabib knew that Justin was short-winded. Khabib also knew that Justin's "D1 wrestling" wasn't worth two-squirts of piss compared to Khabib's level of total grappling prowess.

In a word, Khabib sonned Justin Gaethje in a way that no amount of time will heal.

didn't Gaethje had a fight very recently with Khabib?

It made more sense for McG but since Gaethje fought khabib, he needed a fresh opponent.
