Conor vs Poirier why not Connor vs Gaethje?

Sorry haven't posted in a while but why is Conor rematching Poirier other than fighting Gathje? I'm not even excited for the rematch here... Anyone else feel the same?

Conor and Dustin started the talks through twitter during the time Khabib and Gaethje were set to face each other. By the end of the Khabib fight, it was too late for Justin, as Conor vs Dustin was pretty much set.

And lol at anyone who thinks Conor (a man who starched Alvarez and Dustin) is remotely afraid of Justin (guy who got finished by Alvarez and Dustin).

idk the rankings currently, but Dustin should be higher than Justin. Both lost to Khabib but Dustin followed up with a win against Hooker.

Justin is off a loss and fight wasnt long ago. Its timing and just wasn't meant to be yet. Its one fight I do want to see. With Justin's forward pressure it would be interesting to see how Conor copes with it.

If Conor wanted to fight Justin, he had multiple opportunities in second half of 2019 and in January of 2020 instead of Cowboy.

Justin is coming off a loss and Poirier is coming off a win in an amazing fight.
Conor beat Dustin before, so he probably feels more confident fighting Dustin than someone he's never fought before.

If it were that simple and clear then Conor would've fought Justin (on a 3 fight win streak) in January instead of Cowboy who was on a skid and had been stopped in his 2 previous fights. Give me a break.

So why did Conor fight cowboy? He’s come off many losses...

he’s fighting Dustin because it’s conors best chance of beating a top guy. Dustin is an easier matchup than Justin for conors skill set.
Dustin can still win though.

Conor had the opportunity to fight Justin a year ago. Instead he handpicked Cerrone. It’s pretty clear Conor thinks Dustin is an easier fight. And already having a win over him a lifetime ago is probably why.

Either way.. At least Conor is fighting a top contender. And that’s all I can really ask for if Conor is serious about getting the belt back. I just hope if Conor does win. The UFC makes a legit fight for the actual title if Khabib is not returning. Because remember, this is not a title fight.
