Are McGregor’s BJJ-skills blackbelt worthy?

Dumb for anyone here to be voting yes or no about Conor deserving a blackbelt when we literally don't see him competing in BJJ. There are tons of BJJ black belts that get manhandled on the ground in the UFC. Khabib actually tossed RDA around easier than he did Conor, and RDA was a black belt when they fought. Does that mean RDA is also not worthy? We literally do not have enough data to be making that sort of judgement about Conor either way. The only people who actually do are his coaches and people who he trains with.

And never even subbed anyone or got out of a sub attempt lol.

Got watch the Mendes fight. His escape from a very tight choke in that one was very nice - and he was only purple belt then. Conor has been subbed when he was gassed out from fighting cardio machines like Diaz or Khabib. But, seriously, Khabib could walk into any BJJ gym right now and probably sub 90% of the black belts.

Doesn't mean Conor isn't a dick, but he has legit skills - or used to have.

Kavanagh was more likely to make Conor wait longer due to the perception that it would be undeserved. If he wasn't Conor he'd have received it 5 years ago.

First bjj blackbelt in Ireland. It's not nothing

IIRC he also handed Gunnar his brown belt.
Gunnar subbed Monson in grappling.

Conor had his first ama in 2007 and his first pro fight in 2008. So he has been fighting for 16 years.
16 years to get a black belt, I would claim thats actually pretty slow.
And not some sign its a McDojo

Guy probably just stepped onto a mat for the first time in years in between the affairs, plastic surgery, lawsuits and daily coke binges.

Belts are based on training time, not competition

They absolutely are not (supposed to be) based solely on training time. They are supposed to be based on knowledge, dedication, demonstrated competency etc. Some people can legitimately earn black belts relatively quickly while others take decades.

Yes ! he hasn't been fast tracked to black belt

He'd been black for awhile, even if you just wanted to go by time spent training. He got his brown belt 9 years ago FFS. People are being ridiculous pretending black is some insane high level he isn't at. There are still actual levels above it to demonstrate the level of skill/knowledge you guys are trying to project.

This though may be the nail in the coffin of whether or not he's returning as I'd been theorizing for a while Kav wasn't awarding him his black so long as he was competing as he knew his haters would have this exact reaction and would hold it against him/Conor if Conor gets outgrappled again. Either just hold him back until retirement or until he's confident Conor isn't getting outgrappled (easily). Remains to be seen which this was.

Leaning towards being done though as Conor's been retweeting all his old tweets about how getting his black belt was one of his career goals. He finally got this. The only one he's missing from those old quotes is being in the HoF, which he's obviously going to get when he retires.

This is the issue "never competed" you answered your own comment. I find it hard to understand how you can achieve these accolades when you have never ever proven it. Because boxing for example you can't be the WBC or the WBO champion if you have never had any boxing fights, same with MMA.. how can you be the UFC MW champion if you have never had any fights

Definitely back in early 90s you could never become a 6th degree black belt in BJJ without having an extensive career, it would be totally unheard of. But these days it seems all too easy without any proof

If Conor had thousands of BJJ matches and tournaments like Werdum for example, then thats different and he deserves it and earned it and proved it. Werdum is a real black belt because he has proved it over a long period.

Danaher has unparalleled knowledge in BJJ and coaches several world champion grapplers. How can you say he's not a black belt just because he hasn't competed?

Lol good for him. Lots of jokes I can crack but I'm sure they've already been made. There are far worse blackbelts out there

I'm not a BJJ player, but just from using Wiki, Kavanaugh is legit:
Carlos Gracie - Caros Gracie Jr - Rigan Machado - Chris Hauter - Matt Thornton - John Kavanaugh
