Are McGregor’s BJJ-skills blackbelt worthy?

Lol never gonna happen
I'm not a BJJ player, but just from using Wiki, Kavanaugh is legit:
Carlos Gracie - Caros Gracie Jr - Rigan Machado - Chris Hauter - Matt Thornton - John Kavanaugh
Kav is a valid blackbelt. He just does not produce high level grapplers in my personal experience. Had the pleasure of grappling with lots if his guys. Good people, salt of the earth, not world class IMHO. Still, totally legit. Not all belts are equal and that's perfectly fine

Well it is 2023, Black belts nowadays are less about skill and expertise and more about belt fees and time in contracts.

Conor has never shown anything that proves he deserves a black belt. He's not completely awful off his back but he does look like a fish out of water at times, and that's a bad look for a "black belt"

Congrats to Conor...and shame on anyone here who is shitting on the achievement.

Credit where credit is due.

Conor's fair game when it comes to "fighter bashing."

And I don't mind it.

But should be applied to every fighter!

Conor was winning the fight from his back against DP at one point.

Yeah the whole "you got submitted you can't be a black belt" logic is pretty dumb.

You can even be a high level black belt level and still get steam rolled by world champion level.
This is completely true. If you've got two high level grapplers fighting, it's completely possible one gets a submission win. Doesn't discount the other fighter's skills.

But Conor has never shown anything approaching that level of skill. Ever. It's not even that he's been submitted, it's how quick he is to offer his back and basically just gives up the RNC and then taps out immediately.

Horrible look for a "black belt"

Even McDojos produce halfway decent grapplers. Kavanagh is just selling a black belt at this point.

If I buy a black belt on eBay, will you congratulate me, too?

Since, you know, it'll be just as legitimate as Conor's

Ah yes, so sorry, forgot about the "winning until he lost" part

<36>

Conor's attack from the bottom against DP was notable. (Upkicks and elbows)

Unfortunately, Conor broke his leg afterward.

Conor has improved his grappling immensely from when he first got in the UFC!

from kavanagh? who tf is kavanagh to be handing out BJJ black belts?
John Kavanagh was trained by Matt Thornton who is a 5th degree black belt and owns several gyms around the world. If you got a belt from Matt Thornton? Then it is totally legit.

Got watch the Mendes fight. His escape from a very tight choke in that one was very nice - and he was only purple belt then. Conor has been subbed when he was gassed out from fighting cardio machines like Diaz or Khabib. But, seriously, Khabib could walk into any BJJ gym right now and probably sub 90% of the black belts.

Doesn't mean Conor isn't a dick, but he has legit skills - or used to have.

I watched the Mendes fight live, and wasn't impressed.
Mendes had worse cardio than Conor.

Conor is a great hammer, shitty nail.
In this game you're not gonna get away with always being the hammer.

I wonder what he paid for it? If he entered an amateur whitebelt tourney I wouldn't put money on him lol.

Sounds like a McDojo Belt you get from a Happy Meal
McDojo belt? Okay go spar with John Kavanagh who got his belt from Matt Thornton a very well known martial artist and then come back and tell me how "fake" that belt is.
