Bro can’t even exit out of his pitter patter combos anymore without getting splattered on the octagon, it’s flat out sad to see him punch drunk half the fight losing recollection of rounds.

Again this is coming from a guy who loved Volks style when he was styling on guys like Max taking them to school making people miss left and right while sliding back in the pocket to double dip on his punches. Now he exits combos with a concussion and actively tries to stall in order to not get KO’d.

He did land massive shots. Did you not have your glasses on ya blind fuck?. Lopes is just a fuckin savage and took the shots well. Exchanging punches with him is never a good idea. Volk had to get his shots in and get out and he was able to do that.

he made lopes stumble backwards in round 1 with a left hook and was snapping his head back with right hands, Lopes having a granite chin and not getting rocked doesn't mean they were pitter patter shots.

I agree that Volk is past his prime and definitely makes you nervous to watch because he is clearly worried of getting ko'd but you're acting like he fought like zalal against kattar when he did engage multiple times and swung back in the pocket. Volk was given fight of the night, if he fought like how you're describing then it wouldn't have been such a fun fight

Does it ever cross your mind why you might be so angry that a nobody on the internet might have a different opinion than you.

It’s generally just intolerance. Do you generally have intolerance for diverse ideas? Foreigners? Do you get angry when you travel or are you already angry and then you travel and you take it out on culture shock to avoid the more fundamental anger issues?
 
I don't understand why anyone who is champ and had a good performance would retire. He beat lopes who is really good cleanly. You don't fight guys like lopes and get out with no problems. That's what it looks like when you fight the best. Islam and Jon should take note and fight the best fighters and let's see how they do.

I agree with most of what you’re saying but again it lack some context: let’s not act like Diego Lopes didnt make that fight exciting by relentlessly chasing Volk all night having no respect for his punches. Volk was just smart and used it to accumulate points with volume by tapping low kicks and jabs while Diego came forward.

I scored the fight for Volk, but I was not impressed. That was Diego clearly lacking 5 round and title fight experience. He went in overzealous to KO Volk. Good mentality to have but he didn’t adjust.


The only thing I give Volk credit for is not getting KO’d but he went in there with a point fighting mentality with his team begging him to stall the fight with takedown attempts/wall n stall.


That being said, I’m surprised actual Volk fans aren’t concerned with him getting put on skates almost every round now. He’s literally losing recollection of rounds asking his corner to fill him in on events almost every round…. That’s not a good sign. As a fan of the sport who’s brutally honest, I’m thinking he should call it a career. He did not look good.


He wouldn’t do any better against Topuria and guys like Silva are way too fast and athletic for him at this point. They’re also too well versed on the mat to even consider his antiquated grappling a threat anymore.

Lopes was fine and kept coming forward every round.


Volk literally lost recollection of multiple rounds that fight constantly asking his corner what happened.


I don’t know why you guys just can’t have honest takes. I 100% scored it for Volk, but he did not look good, he went in looking for a decision and got it but ate most the damage in the process.

Show me anyone else in the UFC who has wobbled Lopes multiple times and closed his left eye whilst "running".

Point fighting... He tried to finish an extremely durable guy and couldn't get it done. Lopes caused some superficial Cut damage and instead of getting Usman'd, Volk regained his belt.
 
It was an awesome win over a tough, younger guy.

It would be understandable and a good time for him to call it, seeing the amount of damage he's taken in the last 3 (can't remember if he took damage in Makachev I, but I remember thinking Islam won it).

My buddy was nervous af when he got dropped, which is becoming a pretty familiar sight recently.

Hopefully, he's financially ok because he must've made a lot in the UFC by now and even though last nights fight was awesome, I'd prefer he save his health over any entertainment it could provide me.
 
He is making more per fight now than he probably made in his first 20 fights put together.

"Retiring at the top" won't feed your family.
 
It would royally fuck the UFC's plan if the belt gets vacated yet again lol.
What what the UFC make as a vacant bout this time, Yair vs Mosvar? Would they try to convince Max to come back down?

He needs to take as many fights as quickly as possible. He managed to get the belt back. Now he needs to fill his pockets because he doesn't have much time left.

I think he can still take a punch. Lopes hits pretty hard and has hurt pretty much everyone except Movsar. Last 5 fights he's hurt everyone bad with strikes.

Volk also always reacts very obviously to getting hit by anything. Like even light shots he'll leap back from and start backpedaling. Even when he whooped Zombie, it still looked like Zombie was a threat sometimes because of Volk's reactions to the few strikes he was landing.

Always makes it tense when you're rooting for him lol.
