Lopes has the star quality that the other contenders don't have. Your whole post is true. Dana would love Lopes to be champion. The company is trying very hard to make that happen.

The Australian market is actually pretty big we fucking love the UFC here and sell out arenas consistently.

Maybe not the biggest but a very loyal market.

Having a champion retire with the belt diminishes the prestige of the division and the promotion. If Alex retires with the "0" from a potential champ then it does nothing for the UFC if they can't continue to make money off of Volk's name. Sometimes its best for fighters to hold the "retirement" card close to their chest, because now the promotion will be gunning to deprive you of the belt.

I've never seen the UFC book a champ to defend their belt knowing that they will retire on the card. It's just not good business. They have always held grudges against the surprise retirements: Cejudo, GSP, etc. I believe the reason why Nunes was dragged out of retirement was to ensure the continuation of the WBW lineage passes.

I'm not sure why people are saying that Diego got "schooled" in their last fight. Volk fought like Izzy, on his bike, jab + leg kick fest while avoiding any fire fight.

Volks beaten Lopes recently and can probably putter patter beat him again, seems to be a favor for Volk

I think Murphy or Evloev would've been a way bigger and necessary threat as Volk closes in on 40

They don't hate him. But they definitely have never really been hyped on him. He's over performed for them. But they see him for what he is atm, an aging product. That has to drop off at some point soon. And of the 3 guys available in Evloev, Murphy, and Lopes. Lopes is the least charisma vaccum of the 3. And if he wins, I could honestly see them skipping Evloev, and Murphy again to do the Lopes vs Yair Rodriguez fued fight. UFC loves the mexican market. So i think this is just them trying to angle for that to happen.
 
I think UFC just doesn't think Volk can be milked any longer than they already did. The first fight I think UFC wanted Lopes to win and never intended Volk to reclaim. Still Volk has some value, just not going to bring huge PPV numbers.

Evloev is poison, boring and can't show up. Murphy has put on some stinkers as well. Pretty sure UFC wants Volk over these 2. They have to bring the show for Paramount, so probably going to put on bad matchmaking in terms of sport for the 1st year atleast.

He beat them up behind closed doors and beat their boy max up so many times that they were like "fuck it. Maybe Islam is the one who can beat him. Give him what he wants"

the fuck? They love Volk, he's been nothing but a company guy for them in a top market for UFC.

That’s the thing. The UFC was big on PPV sellers and Volk wasn’t. He also isn’t a big sell outside of your country. I’m not saying I agree just the reality. As solid as he is he has no huge pull in the UFC. He gets the respect in the company of a decent draw not a huge one

They might like him now, but they took forever to get on board with him. He was widely one of the most disliked fighters on the roster by fans when he was going through his trilogy with max, and the ufc clearly wanted him gone or they wouldn't have kept giving him max. The ufc never wanted him in the a title fight In the first place but he kept beating whoever they put in front of him and he kept flying out as back up fighter to other big fights and forced the ufc's hand.

If you love a guy, you don't make them have to go through Mendes and Aldo before fighting for a title, then skip over him and give that title shot to Frankie. If you love a champ you don't make him beat the same guy three times. If the ufc really loved volk they wouldn't have wasted what could have been one of the biggest rematches ever on an 11 day notice fight with islam. They also wouldn't have wasted his damn time these past few months when he's been begging to fight movsar or Murphy since like August.

How is it hating Volk to give him a guy he already beat instead of the guys who are better fighters?

UFC matchmaking has really been complete shit with 0 legitimacy for a long time, so stop treating it like a real sport and just watch for the series of exhibitions that it is.

BW is a rematch of a 50-45, FW is giving the same guy 2 title shots in 9 months when he wasn't even the #1 contender for the first one, LW was a vacant title fight that didn't have the #1 contender in it, followed by an interim fight that also doesn't have the #1, 2 or 3 contender, WW probably will end up being Garry or Shavkat, but who knows, Jones held the HW belt hostage for over 3 years just to get 1 defense against a guy who wans't even an active fighter.
 
They are trying hard to get a Mexican champ. And movsar has a high chance of making it a grapple fest
