i am current on hickman's avengers but keep considering dropping them. i think i'm tired of all the universe threatening events. the avengers doesn't seem to have any direction. there are alot of b-listers on the team that are getting pushed and understand marvel would like them to catch on but i don't care for the majority of them. i have liked remenders uncanny avengers so far though. the avengers is the only hickman i have read and its a little grandiose for me.

I have a huge DC comics collection, and sure DC does have some great stories, Marvel does as well..

And Marvels monthly titles blows DC's out of the freaking water...

You make it seem like ive never picked up a DC book in my life...

and sure I wanna see some of these "iconic" dc stories... give me a list of 5... im sure I read most of them...

and lets be honest nothing DC is doing can compare to Hickmans scope on Avengers and his previous Fantastic Four run.

Hickman is the new Grant Morrison

I think everyone should have

Kingdom Come
Batman Year One
All-Star Superman
Watchmen
The Dark Knight Returns

after that my personal favs

The Judas Contract
The Terror of Trigon
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow
For The Man Who Has Everything
A Death in the Family
Joker Graphic Novel

I would have hoped you read those and understand where I'm coming from, I could go on because I fell in love with these stories, can't say I fell in love with any of Marvels, ultimately it may just be our preferences and so this is a silly argument

and Hickman may be a talented writer, no doubt about it, but for some reason his Avengers title isn't topping the Justice League

multiple factors may play into that, and I like Geoff Johns but I will not be quick to judge saying one is better than the other

edit: oops put Rises instead of Returns, still have Nolans crazy movies on my mind

this. Every issue of avengers showcases someone new and it's tiring.

i might pick up all-star superman just because frank quitely doing art for mainstream books always seems surreal and creepy to me. i'm not a supes fan but i am pumped for man of steel. zack snyder should do a great job and michael shannon as zodd should be entertaining.

Yes, everybody should have the incompetent Batman movie. [edit: crap you edited it already]

I love Geoff Johns since his Green Lantern days and he comes up with great story arcs but he tends to stretch the issues and he seems to be incapable of coming up with a one-story issue or a self-containing story.

anyone else notice how remender tends to carry plots from one title to the next. his arc on secret avengers carried over from uncanny x-force as well as his current uncanny avengers arc with apocalypse. it's kinda cool that 2 of those titles are over but the story continues.

Ive read almost all of them and saying Watchmen is a caped super heroes book is really pushing it.

I just think Marvel has many iconic stories as well and as a whole is putting out better monthly books and has been doing so for many years now.

I just don't think DC has anything that great outside Snyders Batman and maybe Animal Man, which is "really" a true super hero comic, its more like a vertigo title if anything.

But what else are they putting out that's so amazing?? maybe JLA and Aquaman... I also love Johns and think hes DC's most consistent and best writer, he's DC's Bendis.

If im not mistken the Secret Avengers story arc was originally suppose to play out in Uncanny X-Force but because of time factoring in on it it had to be revamped..

Of the titles you listed, I only ones I rate are Batman: Year One, Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen(and that last one only just made the cut).

The rest, including Kingdom Come, are deeply Meh, IMHO.

that makes sense especially considering remender combined his story with the loose ends brubaker left concerning max fury and john steele.

If I'm going with current titles, I will say a lot are just too much filler but

Azzarello and Chang's current Wonder Woman run is great for me
Lemiere and Sorrentino on Green Arrow has been nothing but great
Manapul and Buccellato's Flash is a pretty fun title
Swamp Thing's new writer Soule and artist Kano are off to a good start from Snyder's and Paquette's run

also I'm pretty pumped for Morrison's and Paquette's Wonder Woman Earth One

the whole dc vs marvel thing i think comes down to personal taste. i don't think one is necessarily better than the other. wasn't superman the first super hero ever? so without him there would probably be no marvel. i am a marvel fan but my first exposure to super hero comics was a what if fantastic four comic i bought in i think first grade. i don't even like ff now and who knows if i would've picked up a bats or supes book that day i may have been a diehard dc guy.

To say Marvel doesn't have their share of iconic storylines is kind of unfounded..

Avengers Forever
Dark phoenix Saga
Marvels
Earth X
Fantastic Four-1,2,3,4
E for Extinction, (basically Grants entire New Xmen run)
Daredevil Born Again, (plus Bendis entire run)
Captain America (Brubakers run)
Infinity gauntlet
Kravens Last Hunt
Days of Future Past
Wolverine-Weapon X (barry Windsor smith)
Kree Skrull Wars
Mutant Massacre

I mean the list is endless from Marvel... Even more recently CIvil War and House of M are 2 iconic storylines that drove the company for almost 10 years.

I don't disagree, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and JLA are solid titles. Batman is great, Grants Superman is decent but not great, and I like Animal Man... outside of the big name heroes their other titles are nothing great.

this is just a case of our personal preferences clashing but to me the iconic ones here i have bolded, the rest especially the crossover events aren't worthy of the ones I have bolded imo

I do like The Death of the Stacy's and Ultimate Spider-Man, I'm a huge Spider-Man fan

come one Barry Smiths Weapon X is iconic, so is Earth X, so is Morrison new xmen run...

I met Dan Slott on free comic book day about 2 weeks ago. Im not currently reading spidey as ill wait for the trade but Ultimate Spider Man is excellent, as was most of the original Ultimate line, Ultimates, FF, Spidey, Xmen all aswesome with awesome creators on them

I'm not a big Wolverine fan  Dragon knows this, as does everyone here probably knows too
