Planetary WAS great, but my favorite was always Transmet.

Preacher had the best end-series subversion I've ever seen, without being a cliched "Surprise!" ending.
Planetary was just good story telling. Period.
Y: The Last Man had the most interesting premise.
Transmet simultaneously had the most interesting setting and didn't take itself too seriously, which I always love.

All those are great titles but for me personally Planetary is the bees knees.

I've yet to read anything more original in my life. The concept is sheer brilliance.

Lol not trying to be an ironic hipster...I think it just goes to show that I'm ignorant. When I asked about graphic novels that weren't standard superhero affairs, those were the ones that I seemed to hear about a lot. I will check out Y and Planetary.
 
Anyone ever read Astro City?

There's another one I like that is technically a "superhero" comic, but it's a big subversion of the typical superhero tropes is Empowered.

It's not next-level shit like the ones I've mentioned, but it's pretty good. Like Transmet, it's not meant to be taken too seriously. Though with Transmet, it's the setting that's absurd, but the premise and plotlines ARE serious business, whereas with Empowered, just about everything is absurd.

Michel Fiffe, he writes/draws/colors/letters/publishes Copra. I think he responds to everyone who emails him or talks to him on twitter though, so I don't feel as special as I'd like to, but still pretty special. :)

Of course. I wanna buy the new trades DC is putting out, but I think they're releasing them out of order? But yea Astro City is great. Just a celebration of all things superhero; the good AND the bad.
 
A buddy of mine just got signed up with Diamond comic distributors and he now gets everything at wholesale cost.

He sells things at shows and online. He doesn't own his own shop but he sells enough to become a member with them.

That means I get everything basically 50% off. Image, Marvel, and DC all at cost.


So I just ordered a whole shit ton of graphic novels and I'm paying what the wholesale price. I'm so excited. Lol.

He gets toys, statues and collected trades all at this price

The only thing he doesn't get are the loose individual monthly issues. You have to purchase a certain amount of each and he deals in toys, statues and collected trades only.

I just ordered the entire Jason Aaron Thor run in hard cover, Kieron Gillens Young Avengers Omnibus, The Planetary oversized Omnibus, the entire Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen.

I think they are all amazing choices.

Nah man, that is awesome. If he does it for everybody that must means he's extra cool.
 
Yea he seems like a bro. You should really read Copra, man. Especially if you're interested in reading Suicide Squad but don't feel like hunting down all the out of print floppies. Copra is basically a Suicide Squad homage comic with a bunch of pastiche characters from both DC and Marvel. Hell, even pastiches of The original Reavers and Marauders from X-Men show up at one point.

Just finished up Old Man Logan...so good. Went a little on the whimsical side and read 2 volumes of the ghostbusters books, a fun read, light but not bad. Starting up Underwater welder next, read Saints (of boxers and saints), wow man, brutal stuff at the end.

Hawkeye #21 was good to bro. Pick it up bro, the comic bro.

Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's God Killer and Galactus arcs are epic comics. Kieron Gillen's Journey Into Mystery is one of my favorite runs on a comic ever. When JIM finished I was actually sad. Brubaker's run on Cap and Pak's run on Hulk were also two of my favorite run's but them leaving didn't suck as much as I felt they had run their course but JIM was still fresh and fun when Gillen left.
 
Just finished the TPB of Rat Queens and damn, should've picked it up a while ago. It's funny, gory and all about the d20 D&D.

Rat queens is awesome! I think they also have a spinoff one shot, havent read it yet, if you like that you might also dig Skullkickers.
 
I hate to sound whiny but I'm making my way slowly through "Age of Apocalypse" and it's kind of boring me.. :(
