I picked up Southern Bastards Vol 1 from Image comics and written by Jason Aaron this past week.

Anyone get into this yet. Not sure if I remember anyone talking about it.

Southern Bastards is the reason I decided to pick up Scalped. I wanted something similar in theme and I must say as I much as I have enjoyed Jason Aaron's writing on Wolverine, Thor, Punisher Max, and Southern Bastards I think Scalped is still his best work to date.

Original setting, great pacing and characterization. The art of R.M. Guerra is a perfect match for the grittiness of the story also.

Just finished Scalped and it deserves a mention in the op imo. I bought the first tpb with trade in credit, the 2nd with a gift card, 2-7 at 50% off and after finishing those I said fuck it and bought 8-10 at full price because I couldn't wait to get a deal to finish the story.

I've finished the first 2 tpb's of Simonson's Thor and while it is a tad dated it has been an entertaining read so far.

Just finished Black Science Vol 1, that was a nice combo of classic sci-fi and newer yet throwback art style.

Last week I finished up Bone, was pretty good, also read Translucid.

Read New Avengers: Illuminati & Road to Civil War this week to get some backstory before starting Hickman's New Avengers and Avengers when my pre-ordered big collections of them arrive in 6 weeks.

Illuminati was a fun read showing the big events that brought them together again (Kree/Skrull War, Infinity Gauntlet, The Beyonder & Battleworld, Noh-Varr & women and Secret Invasion). Love the cover and the ladies cover.

And Road to Civil War had the build to Planet Hulk which I'm reading next.

Planet Hulk is the shit. I gave my copy of the tpb to someone that said they thought telling a good Hulk story was impossible.

Planet hulk is pretty self contained in fact thats how it was recommend to me cause the person knew i did not read hulk at all

I DONT KNOW HOW CIVIL WAR COMIC WOULD LEAD INTO

I'm making my way through age of apocalypse on marvel unlimited.

The story is kind of all over the place.

I DONT KNOW HOW CIVIL WAR COMIC WOULD LEAD INTO

It has the Illuminati's meeting about getting rid of the Hulk and Stark telling them about the Registration Act. Namor picks a fight with the rest of the group because he is against getting rid of Hulk.

O yeah i forgot about how he ended up there NEVER BOTHERED WITH ANY OF THAT STUFF

Fist issue of Warren Ellis's Blackcross dropped today and it was pretty great. If the idea of a horror/mystery comic mixed with public domain pulp heroes gives you a chubby then check it out.

It's the best thing he ever wrote! ULTIMATES was a pale shadow. PALE. SHADOW.

It sure is one of my favorites. Between him and Ellis I have read that run at least 10 separate times. I actually just bought the oversized Ultimate Editions for half off cover price last time my shop had a big sale.

The Authority under Ellis really changed the face of
Comics books forever. Millar grabbed the ball and just went with it and ht a game
Winning 3 pointer.

And like I said the Authority is the Ultimates on steroids and cocaine.

I thought I'd show my pull list at my lcs. Feel free to post yours. I think I usually average around 20 titles.

I burn with jealousy.

What kills me is that's not even "genuine" Warren Ellis, whose work I find very anti-climactic.

Ellis translated Bayhem, what he called the widescreen approach. Bay's ultra dense hyper kinetic framework works better with the static image, where we've got time to soak in all the detail. I think what changed things was the brilliant re-introduction of the fun kick'n'splode that we had lost in the grim and gritty era.

Plus they were purer versions of their inspirations. What I like about analogues is they carry no baggage nor continuity restrictions. They boil straight down to the essence of Character more than the particular character they emulate. The idea of a rapist Captain America tears such a fucking hole in the fabric of satire it would be TOO on-the-nose if Millar didn't score bigtime with some choice one-liners. Although, and this is no surprise, I much prefer Ellis' subtlety. It feels like he has more respect for the suspension of disbelief, whereas Millar must deliver the porn straight into your eyeballs.

They're different things!
Prime Hitch was WASTED!! Girl, you know it's true!

Prime Hitch was WASTED!! Girl, you know it's true!

Pffft, Hitch on Fantastic Four, that's a waste. Millar knew just how to use Hitch. Millar always knows.

Hitch brought back the backgrounds. Eat it 90s Image!

Picked issues one and two for grant morrisons new comic

"Nameless"

Pretty interesting so far has an occult constatine feel to it but very different also.

Love the cover to the 2nd issue
