C'mon brah. Its a comic. There are probably 50 words on a page filled with prime John Byrne illustrations with prime X-Men characters and character development going on.
If Claremont didn't write as much as he did then the characters we love today wouldn't be as rich as they are. If anything characters have lost layers since they strayed from this practice. I also think that writing kept the writers honest and on point.
Another thing that grinds my gears is how they all of a sudden got rid of the (*)* indicating what issue is being referenced. How do new readers have any idea what the hell is going on these days?
I don't think that's a good thing if all the character development going on is through inner monologues lol. I'm definitely not saying characters shouldn't have thoughts at all on page, but a lot of what Claremont wrote is just a character complaining about something or having suspicions about someone. I think it's far more interesting when that kinda stuff is told through the art, which is why we read comics and not novels.
That's one of the reasons I'm in love with Copra so much. Whenever the action goes down there are zero thought bubbles and almost no dialogue because every character is fighting for their lives and they don't have time to talk or think in long-winded sentences.
