C'mon brah. Its a comic. There are probably 50 words on a page filled with prime John Byrne illustrations with prime X-Men characters and character development going on.

If Claremont didn't write as much as he did then the characters we love today wouldn't be as rich as they are. If anything characters have lost layers since they strayed from this practice. I also think that writing kept the writers honest and on point.

Another thing that grinds my gears is how they all of a sudden got rid of the (*)* indicating what issue is being referenced. How do new readers have any idea what the hell is going on these days?

I don't think that's a good thing if all the character development going on is through inner monologues lol. I'm definitely not saying characters shouldn't have thoughts at all on page, but a lot of what Claremont wrote is just a character complaining about something or having suspicions about someone. I think it's far more interesting when that kinda stuff is told through the art, which is why we read comics and not novels. :)

That's one of the reasons I'm in love with Copra so much. Whenever the action goes down there are zero thought bubbles and almost no dialogue because every character is fighting for their lives and they don't have time to talk or think in long-winded sentences.

Just finished ultimates 2

You bastards really spoiled me with these series.

I thought 2 was even better then 1. Captain America is a goddamn badass. Hawkeye is a goddamn badass.

Funny, gritty, all around enjoyable series.

Sweet.

Now, try OLD MAN LOGAN.

This is what I'm reading right now. It's freaking amazing! Its as if "The Dukes of Hazzard", "The Wire", "Walking Tall", "Remember the Titans", and legendary Alabama Crimson Tide Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant got thrown into a blender and this story came out.

Do NOT do yourself the disservice of missing it. Especially if you like Football and Southern Cooking.

Hell, a lot of shit haha. I'm just not a fan of Millar's Ultimates and I think I'm the only one on here who isn't.

Haha I was just curious. No problem with different opinions.

I just started reading the Age of Ultron storyline in anticipation of the movie.

I want to read Old Man Logan soon, probably after AoU. But I haven't read any other Wolverine stuff. Should I read any older stuff first?

What is something you would you recommend as being "good" by Marvel?

Unless you were asking for recommendations? In that case I would recommend...

Grant Morrison's New X-Men
Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force
Frank Miller's Daredevil
Brian Bendis's Daredevil
Ed Brubaker's Daredevil
Mark Waid's Daredevil
Warren Ellis's Moon Knight
Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four and FF
Garth Ennis's Punisher (everything he's ever written about the character)
Rick Remender's Punisher
Greg Rucka's Punisher
Warren Ellis's Thunderbolts
Jeff Parker's Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers
Jonathan Hickman's Secret Warriors
Jonathan Hickman's SHIELD
Warren Ellis's Secret Avengers
Rick Remender's Secret Avengers
Walt Simonson's Thor
Brubaker's Immortal Iron Fist
Kaare Kyle Andrews' Iron Fist: The Living Weapon

Most of my recommendations are usually stories that are pretty much standalone. Old Man Logan is set in an alternate future where the bad guys have finally won and took over the United States. Logan is old and a pacifist.

Just read all the mini series stuff Millar writes. If you liked it, great. If you didn't, it was only 6 issues.

Yes I am always looking for recommendations. I signed up for Marvel Unlimited last month so I am going to read every single thing on there eventually. I will look for all that you have mentioned above on it. Thanks man!

You're the best dragonlord! I love standalones. No fussing with tie-ins or pre-story.

That brings back memories of going through stacks at the comic shop looking for a past issue that was usually worth several times the cover price. You were fucked if Wizard deemed that comic expensive. The comic industry did a good thing with moving toward easy access to TPBs.

Tpb are a godsend, but I still miss the (*), and noobs don't even know what they're missing.

What is something you would you recommend as being "good" by Marvel?

Morrisons Xmen

Hickmans Fantastic Four

Brian Bendis entire Avengers run

These are always home runs for me.

And Bendis also wrote Might Avengers which was pretty damn good and he also wrote Dark avengers which is the Shiznit

How does this sound for a comic:

In the Marvel universe, where anyone can be a mutant, four people join together in their late teens/early 20's to make a band. They each have a super power, but haven't quite understood theirs yet. They're all originals, but may have a connection to the rest of the universe. They thrive on 60s-90s rock music, and have concerts/gigs weekly. They end up finding their true meaning, solving crimes and fighting bad guys.

The name is Band of Heroes.

Sounds like a good idea for DC.

Rama where u at with Avengers.

U get the most recent New avengers. Fn sick

I just caught up with that side of the story and thus far, the New Avengers side is the most convoluted of the Time Runs out arc, IMO.

Sounds like a good idea for DC.

I was thinking they each were born with certain powers that made their playing ability better, but they'd hold back. Maybe a meta-human change could do it, but I'd rather they be born with powers and meet naturally. Each of them try their best to not let anyone know, meet eachother and become best friends, make a band and become a local band for their city. They stay this way for a bit until something happens and they have to save someone. Thus, Band of Heroes.

How about they're musical prodigies (only they know they have a power that gives this ability), they're from different parts of the country and recognize the gift in each other while attending some elite music school. They have other applications/ depth to their respective powers that you can flesh out, as well as the origin of their gifts, and search for others. In doing so they stumble upon a GMO/ E.T./ Government conspiracy.

Now I'm thinking more Image than DC.

Let me know what you think (I hate when people misinterpret or jack my ideas, but I would love to banter back and forth with you on this.

edit: or they're all drawn to a Craigslist ad for a band and there is some shady shit going on so they bounce before shit gets crazy. they run into each other later and form up and follow a similar formula.
You could even add in some Devil giving powers for people's souls. These kids didn't agree to the contract but got the gift and now they're constantly fighting off demons and trying to get rid of their powers so their soul isn't forfeit.
