Marvel Comics' STAR WARS #1 To Sell Over One Million Copies

ComicBook.com has learned that Marvel Comics' upcoming Star Wars #1 will sell over a million copies, becoming the top-selling single-issue comic book of the last twenty years. Star Wars, will also become the first-ever million-selling periodical comic book sold exclusively through direct market channels without the aid of newsstands.

The series, which takes place between the events of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and features all of the major characters from the film, is due in stores January 14, 2015. It is written by Jason Aaron, with artwork by John Cassaday. While Marvel handled the official adaptations of the original Star Wars trilogy and had a successful Star Wars series around the time of their theatrical release, 2015 will be the first time in decades that the publisher has handled the Star Wars license.

For years, that license had been in the hands of Dark Horse Comics, who contributed to the "Expanded Universe" that also included video games and prose novels. The rights reverted to Marvel as a result of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. Disney also owns Marvel. The aforementioned Expanded Universe has been rendered non-canonical in the run-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Aaron and Cassaday's Star Wars will essentially launch a new one altogether, drawing from the seven feature films (the original trilogy, the prequels and the animated Clone Wars movie) as well as Clone Wars and Rebels.

The last time a mainstream American comic book sold 1 million issues, it was Batman #500, which saw the introduction of Jean-Paul Valley as the new Batman following Bruce Wayne's injuries in the best-selling Knightfall storyline. That was in 1993.

Marvel's Star Wars Becoming the Top-Selling Single-Issue Comic Book of the Last 20 years

art looks bleh, those faces are too model-like

Gimme some good comics ( marvel DC) to get for christmas

Superman Secret Identity, All-Star Superman, Batman Earth-One, The Killing Joke, Batman Year One, Joker Graphic Novel, 52, Identity Crisis, Flashpoint

If Liefeld was on the cover it would sell 5 million just like X-Force.

Quesada is a legit good artist.

That Rob L cover hurts my eyes. Like looking at a fat woman trying to pick a dime up off a linoleum tile floor.

lulz, Riddler was the 2nd best imo, but now what has been seen...

Getting burned out on these X-Men books already. Over halfway through Claremont's run on Uncanny X-Men and almost finished with his run on New Mutants. The first 6 issues of X-Factor though really bored the hell out of me.

The original X-Factor is pretty lame.
The premise is great, but the execution is meh.
Only remarkable thing to happen in the first 20 issues of X-Factor was the 1st Appearance of Apocalypse.

I know your working your way in chronological order, but if the original team is appealing to you, All New X-Men (current ongoing series) is amazing.

Only reason I bothered with the original X-Factor was because of the Apocalypse/Archangel stuff. I always thought Archangel was a bad ass as a kid so I wanted to read how he came to be, but I don't know if I want to bother now lol. Unless someone can tell me which issues specifically I should read.

And the only on-going X title I really care to read is All New X-Factor. And that's after I read Peter David's previous X-Factor work, which is apparently great.

There are probably some important issues during the major crossovers: Mutant Massacre, X-cutioner's Song, X-tinction Agenda, Age of Apocalypse.

Xfactor tried too hard to be gritty and edgy. The xforce part of X-cutioners song is brutal to look at.

Gimme some good comics ( marvel DC) to get for christmas

DC
Superman Red Son by Mark Millar
Kingdom Come by Mark Waid
Batman Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb

Marvel
Inhumans by Paul Jenkins
Cap America Winter Soldier by Ed Brubaker

Or for something that is a combination of stuff from both, Boom Studios
Deathmatch by Paul Jenkins

Or just look at DL list.

Uber #20 was pretty good. Finally get to see Soviet Battleship in action.

I find Chris Claremonts Xmen to be extremely wordy, far to much narration, and at times just dull.

Sure some of the stories are great but a lot is very tough to get through.
