Wrong!

While I agree Frank Miller has gone ass over shoulders in terms of EVERYTHING, ASB&R and even THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN are both head and shoulders above your run-of-the-mill comic books. Heart, crackling energy, wild ideas, scintillating story moments. Y'know. Fun.

One of the things I really dig is you can track the emotional evolution of Frank Miller's Batman from YEAR ONE, to ASB&R, to BATMAN/SPAWN, to DKR and DKSA. You see the descent into megalomania. Of course, I'm admittedly biased as Frank's is my default version of Batman. However, I do very much appreciate the work Grant Morrison has put into the mythos, and how he's examined how Batman has changed over the last forty, fifty years. Meta-fictive stuff.

Most long-time comic fans forget they might have aged out of the demographic. "Juvenile" work may seem unrefined to "sophisticated" palates.

All Star B & R started out fun but it went to crap after 2 issues. Story was inconsistent even though there wasn't much to it.

All Star Superman was out of the norm and that was fun.

I've been playing The Wolf Among Us, which is based on Fables, and I absolutely love it. Where should I start on the series? Do I need to pick up from the beginning?

Read FABLES from the beginning. *cough, also read Whedon's Astonishing X-Men from the beginning. cough*

Fables is an awesome book, specifically #1 to #81. Be patient with it for the first dozen issues and you will be rewarded.

Frylock, no need to worry about past storylines because The Ultimates is set in an alternate Marvel universe. The Ultimates 1 is a reimagining of the Avengers origin story.

Just read The Ultimates 1 and 2. It quickly goes downhill after that.

Next on your list should be Old Man Logan.

Anyway, just look through my recommendations on page 1. All the books mentioned are awesome.

Awesome I will add the ultimates 1 and 2 and old man Logan to my queue on the marvel app to read.

I just finished the Inhumans 1998 12 issue run, I enjoyed that.

If DC can make a movie that evokes All Star Superman they will succeed. Snyder blows.

Lol one of these days I'll get around to it.

Thanks for the responses, guys. From the beginning it is. Can't wait.

Fables is ending at 150,confirmed by the author.

Time to start reading.

Just read Issue 1 of 4 for Hulk vs Thanos , meh beginning the art is bit Generic and Jim Starlin is at least trying to make this more than a slugfest between the two as this issue felt full of exposition to set things up . Hopefully issues 2-4 round it all out

What's good about ASB&R?

Reading Injustice Gods among us. I guess the story ends with the start of game by same name (wouldn't know, did not play the game).

It's quite extensive and goes through almost every single major DC (and Vertigo) character. At Year 3 now.

I don't know much about comics, the complex storytelling and whatnot, but this seems like a really good read. At one point i cried like a baby. Me, a 32 year old man/guy. The panel moved me so much.

no really, major spoilers. Last chance to turn around and enjoy the wonderful read

"But why male models?"

Heart, crackling energy, wild ideas, scintillating story moments. Y'know. Fun.

I was reading some article about something and the writer was talking about his litmus test on what he considers art. He had two criteria, but the one I remember was the notion that art rides the fine line between sincerity and self-parody (as perceived by the viewer). There's a point, he contends, where the viewer's going to ask, "Are they being serious with this?"

The universal initial reaction to what Frank Miller put into ADB&R is, we ask, "Has he gone nuts?" Both Batman and Frank Miller. From there you can take the jaded approach thinking it's too weird, too wild, and not enough Nolan. But if you take the approach that ignites imagination, you are in for a hell of a thrillride (though one that is sadly unfinished).

You know how Batman gets over on Green Lantern? He puts him in a room where he's painted everything yellow. On paper that idea is stupid ridiculous, yet how Miller plays the scene it's funny and dynamic ... because it's ridiculous ... because IT'S COMICS.

Marvel Comics' STAR WARS #1 To Sell Over One Million Copies

star-wars-1-joe-quesada-cover-108102.jpg

ComicBook.com has learned that Marvel Comics' upcoming Star Wars #1 will sell over a million copies, becoming the top-selling single-issue comic book of the last twenty years. Star Wars, will also become the first-ever million-selling periodical comic book sold exclusively through direct market channels without the aid of newsstands.

The series, which takes place between the events of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and features all of the major characters from the film, is due in stores January 14, 2015. It is written by Jason Aaron, with artwork by John Cassaday. While Marvel handled the official adaptations of the original Star Wars trilogy and had a successful Star Wars series around the time of their theatrical release, 2015 will be the first time in decades that the publisher has handled the Star Wars license.

For years, that license had been in the hands of Dark Horse Comics, who contributed to the "Expanded Universe" that also included video games and prose novels. The rights reverted to Marvel as a result of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. Disney also owns Marvel. The aforementioned Expanded Universe has been rendered non-canonical in the run-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Aaron and Cassaday's Star Wars will essentially launch a new one altogether, drawing from the seven feature films (the original trilogy, the prequels and the animated Clone Wars movie) as well as Clone Wars and Rebels.

The last time a mainstream American comic book sold 1 million issues, it was Batman #500, which saw the introduction of Jean-Paul Valley as the new Batman following Bruce Wayne's injuries in the best-selling Knightfall storyline. That was in 1993.

Those are awesome BTAS posters.

I've only read Year 1 of Injustice but that's one of my favorite.

Reading Superior right now and the artwork by Leinil Yu is great.

I like Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns written by Frank Miller, Death of the Family written by Scott Snyder. I also heard New 52 Swamp Thing, New 52 Animal Man, Jeff Lemire's New 52 Green Arrow have all been really good and you can probably pick them up as trades.
