Ilia vs Arman is a coin toss. If Arman is smart (which he clearly is not outside the cage), he should be able to outwrestle and outgrapple Topuria, even just by sheer strength (I actually think he’s better in both areas). Still, he hasn’t shown to be particularly dangerous with submissions or GnP. On the ground, he should look for positions that make Ilia fatigue his arms defending, or armbar, americana, kimura... attempts (even if not locked) that punish his shoulders and elbows to steal his speed and power.
But Ilia only needs one combination to land a clean shot before that happens.
Ilia would have slim chances against Islam at 155.
If Islam gets overconfident with his MT, see above. But Islam’s striking is much better than Arman’s, has longer reach, is a southpaw, has more takedown tools, and is a threat both with GnP and submissions. He’s also considerably stronger.
At WW, Ilia wouldn’t stand a chance simply due to size: he doesn’t belong in that division.
Alex vs Gane is a coin toss. Gane is exceptionally athletic and, though a bit pillow-fisted for his division, he’s still a beast. Even if they’d weigh about the same in a potential fight, their muscular maturity is very different: Alex was fighting at 185 just two and a half years ago.
On the other hand, Alex is a much better kickboxer, and his power would translate to HW.
Alex would have a hope in hell against Tom. Tom is, in my opinion, the most dangerous MMA fighter in the world: significantly bigger, much younger, and a threat in every area of the fight.
Thoughts?
