Brain trauma + 10 years of hard partying and substance abuse. I'm not sure he's ever openly talked about his substance abuse problems but it's obvious he has struggled with it, not even sure if he's even completely sober now but he certainly would have slowed down.

Chuck was so good back in his heyday. I remember looking through his fights back then and comparing his record to that of other lhws and noting how exceptional it was.

He was never super athletic, but he had power and a kind of pitfighter ring iq; he both knew how to break guys and to find the kill shot.

Looking at how he was moving going into the last "fight".. it just dont look right. Like something is wrong with him.

Those neurons ain’t firing up like they used to after years of partying. Chuck is my favourite fighter too he got me into the sport as well, but we all have to get old.

This. And Chuck had a very good chin before it got cracked by Rashad. Chin makes such a huge difference. The Aldo that ate Mendes best shots would likely be 135 champ right now (maybe ever 145 champ still).

His decline makes perfect sense. He was always willing to eat a shot to land a shot for his whole career and was well known for drinking and taking drugs for years then he got KOed a bunch in a row. It was like he was waging a war against his bodies neurological system and his body eventually lost.
