Hans Zimmer to Score Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK

Hans-Zimmer-010816-Dragonlord.jpg

Though he has one of the more enviable careers that a composer could ever hope for, 2015 wasn’t a particularly strong year for Hans Zimmer. This is a far cry from his booming work on some of Hollywood’s biggest productions of the last decade or so.

Zimmer's most notable work, however, has been in collaboration with Christopher Nolan, on Interstellar, Inception, and the Dark Knight Trilogy specifically, and he’s now looking to continue this partnership by scoring Nolan’s recently announced Dunkirk.

For those unfamiliar, Dunkirk focuses on the evacuation of Dunkirk at the beginning of World War II, in which 300,000 Allied troops rescued the titular French city from the grip of the Germans.

The film has yet to cast its major leads, as Nolan is looking to have essential unknowns for those parts, but Tom Hardy, Kenneth Brannagh, and Mark Rylance are all in talks to join the picture. Dunkirk is set to open on July 21, 2017.

Nolan, Hardy, and now Zimmer? This is one movie that I will definitely be seeing. So many of the best are all coming together for this picture.

Christopher Nolan Reteaming with Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema for DUNKIRK

Hoyte-van-Hoytema-Cinematographer-Dragonlord.jpg

As Christopher Nolan prepares for an early summer shoot of his World War II drama Dunkirk, he’s busy filling out his cast and crew. Set to shoot in IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film, many have wondered if longtime collaborator Wally Pfister would return or perhaps he’d reteam with Interstellar‘s Hoyte van Hoytema.

It looks like it will be the latter, as the announcement that Hoytema has deservedly joined the American Society of Cinematographers includes a note that he is “currently prepping an untitled feature for director Christopher Nolan, with whom he first collaborated on Interstellar.”

Following his work on Spectre, Her, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let the Right One In, and more, fans look forward to how he pulls off a period epic with Nolan, particularly with a completely large-scale format.

Shooting partially on location in Dunkirk, the film is reportedly inspired by Operation Dynamo, a miracle of a mission in 1940 where nearly 340,000 Allied troops were rescued after being trapped by the Nazis in this northern area of France.

He's got a lot to make up for after Interstellar.

So Dunkirk was just an evacuation right? No action then. This will be a boring movie.

Meh. I think I've had my fill on WW2 movies.

DiCaprio should've gotten Nolan to direct THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY instead of Scorsese.

Nah. At this point I'd put Scorsese above Nolan, head and shoulders.

I wonder what role Michael Caine will play?

I think in the case of THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY, it's more a preference of style. When I read the book, the story is told very similar to how Nolan likes to film (two alternating main plots + several subplots), whereas I feel Scorsese is more of a linear director who better focuses on a single narrative.

Can't possibly be anything besides exposition man.

Newcomer Fionn Whitehead in Talks for the Lead in DUNKIRK

Fionn-Whitehead-Dunkirk-Dragonlord.jpg

Christopher Nolan has set his sights on newcomer Fionn Whitehead to play one of the two young leads in his WWII movie Dunkirk, multiple individuals familiar with the Warner Bros. project have told TheWrap.

It is unclear whether Whitehead has closed a deal at this point as he seemingly has no U.S. representation, but insiders suggest he is Nolan’s choice — and the Dark Knight director often gets his man. Nolan has been testing young actors for weeks, many of whom remain largely unknown.

Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance will co-star in the action-adventure movie, which chronicles the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk. Warner Bros. will release Dunkirk worldwide on July 21, 2017.

Whitehead’s only role to date is ITV’s three-part domestic horror-drama Him, which marks his first screen role, though he is a member of the National Youth Theatre according to Screen Terrier.

One Direction's Harry Styles Joins Christopher Nolan's WWII Drama DUNKIRK

Harry-Styles-Dunkirk-Dragonlord.jpg

In a casting move that can be described as boy band meets Battle of the Bulge, One Direction member Harry Styles will be joining the production of Christopher Nolan's WWII action-adventure project Dunkirk.

There was an extensive search to find the film's young leads. Along with Styles, English actors Jack Lowden and Aneurin Barnard are in talks to board epic production. Newcomer Fionn Whitehead has been cast in what could best be described as the lead role of the project but sources say the script is ensemble in nature.

The Warner Bros. film centers on the British military evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk in 1940, one of the biggest battles during the way. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are the bold names that will surround the newcomers.

Production on the film, which will be shot on 65mm large format film and Imax, will begin in May. Dunkirk is set to hit theaters July 21, 2017.

Dunkirk will be the Styles' feature film debut. Last summer, it was announced that One Direction would disband in 2016 and would not tour for their fifth studio album, so this casting may mark a career shift for the British recording artists, from the arena stage to the silver screen.

Lowden recently appeared in BBC's adaptation of War and Peace, while Barnard starred as King Richard in BBC-Starz miniseries The White Queen.

why in the mcfuck is a stupid boy band member getting into a movie

40.000 allies retreating from the Nazis and then calling it a miracle and spinning it as a moral victory

Did they even shoot back? I dont think the Nazis fire on them. Had they, Dunkirk would be a massacre but it wasnt. This is going to be a sappy drama arthouse film.

Unbreakable > every Nolan movie

It was building up to be. Then the end happened.

"Don't you see? I'm the evil villain and you're the hero I need to battle!! I'm the evil genius!"
-"Oh really? That was you? Ok I'll call the cops now."
The End.
