Christopher Nolan's WWII Thriller DUNKIRK

Psyched to see this, gonna check it out in IMAX 70mm next week.

I doubt it will crack my top 3 war films, but I'm open-minded if it does.

I saw a random episode on Bravo, decided to rent it at Blockbuster. Rented the first disk which was two episodes and was completely blown away. I returned immediately to rent the next disk but it was out. I went every single day for a week and it was never in. Finally, on Saturday, I snapped, went to Best Buy, and bought the box set (the one in the metal box).

I went home to binge and I watched the first two again because by God I was going to do it right.

Just as I finished the second episode, a friend called me and asked what I was doing. I explained and he said it sounded awesome and he'd be right over.

So, I watched the first two episodes for the third time in a week, and we watched the entire series through in one shot, finishing at six the next morning.

Worth it.

Best thing that has ever been on television.

Just going to post this scene, one of my favorites although I could say that about a dozen scenes.

The entire sequence is amazing.

I commandeered the DVD box set back in the day one summer, watched it on the first weekend I had moved into a new pad, tried the local Chinese place for some takeout, came home & put it on, binged the whole series. Fond memories.

That's one of those shows that you have to keep watching.

So fucking good.

Shame about The Pacific.

I haven't even been able to bring myself to watch it yet. I've put it off for years. I'm sure it will be decent, but it's just a bit hard to follow something like BoB when you know the next one doesn't live up.

I have binge watched that series so many times, it's ridiculous. And it's absolutely true. In the interviews, you hear them referencing such specific scenes that are all in there. It is just the most insane story ever because it's true and awesome.

It's anthological and doesn't follow a group of characters through.

Also, the Pacific theater was a slaughterhouse and the series was brutal.

If Band of Brothers had never existed I would probably have enjoyed The Pacific but I was pretty disappointed.

I'll give it a shot oneathese days, but yeah I basically just have to look at it as an entire unrelated show.

And honestly I'll probably end up rewatching BoB before I get around to it

Wow. So the answer to my question was literally, 'Why not both?'

The IMAX 70mm tickets go fast for this(or at least the good seats). I was able to get just about dead center for a Saturday 11am showing.

Side note the IMAX 70mm showing does not have previews from what my previous experiences have been so the show show start on time unlike other movies.

Unlike 35mm film projectors, in which the film is oriented vertically, the Imax 70mm projector orients the film horizontally. The film is drawn from the center of the spool outward and returned to the take-up spool in the same way, leaving it ready to be played again immediately—no rewinding necessary. Interstellar fills the spool so completely, there is no room for trailers, and the end credits are drastically shorter than in other presentation formats.

I'm gonna wait for a weekday, probably middle of next week, try to avoid the mad rush. Also have to make sure I get good seats, fuck looking straight up at an IMAX.

That actually happen to me with the Dark Knight back in '08. These were the days before reserved seating. I went 2 weeks after it open during the week and the movie was so popular that the IMAX weekday show sold out and i ended up in the very first row. Complete waste of a ticket. They should even be allowed to sell tickets that close.

This movie won't do nearly as well so shouldn't be an issue. Also there is a lot IMAX's these days so people don't realize what is real IMAX and what isn't. When the Dark Knight came out there IMAX really meant IMAX so everyone knew where to go and the tickets were impossible to get. Dark Knight pretty much started this current IMAX(LIEMAX) trend of it being branded in tons of theaters.

As an Aussie who revered BOB I was psyched about The Pacific, but it was just not on the same level of storytelling. There were equally captivating stories waiting to be told, it just felt rushed to screen post BOB blow-up.
