The Prestige>>>>Unbreakable

For me anyways, so suck it.

Signs is my favorite M. Knight movie.

Nolan's overall body of work is vastly superior.

The Village? The Last Airbender? The Happening LOL!?

Lady in the Water it's the shit bro!!!

His best films aren't as good as they're hyped to be, but his worst aren't the dogs his haters proclaim them to be either.

I do love that he refuses to just make "safe" films though.

Signs was great. Unbreakable and 6th Sense are classics.

The rest, meh.

Nolan vs Night is surprisingly competitive. I think SIXTH SENSE = MEMENTO in terms of smashing breakthroughs, and vivid efforts. They both have perfect films in UNBREAKABLE and THE PRESTIGE, but I guess you could say Night captured lightning sooner. You could argue UNBREAKABLE is more akin to BATMAN BEGINS, but I think the former is superior in that it doesn't at all rely on the subsequent installments (which never happened).

Beyond these four films, at first blush it would seem Nolan runs away with it; he's certainly got a more successful catalog, both in terms of box office as well as technical and creative execution. He's certainly able to repeat high caliber filmmaking in INCEPTION and INTERSTELLAR, whereas Night seems to have floundered.

But I don't think Nolan has ever crafted a moment as well as Night has. We all grasp story, and sound, and sometimes image -- we can learn to appreciate these things on a technical level -- but these are all governed by time. Pacing. And despite all his missteps, M. Night Shyamalan has mastered his moments. He can create suspense that will rip you out of your ass and take you to another place.

Make you feel your bones shatter. He even managed to put Superman in danger with a gun that never fires. There's a sequence where it's just a close-up of an audio tape and a guy whispering? Scared me so bad, I was like "fuck tapes" for a while. Playing cassettes wasn't even a thing anymore by that time.

Unbreakable is a classic movie though, my favorite M Night flick.

But don't ya get a headache when ya start to think about them?

No :P Because time travel and alternate universes, and paradoxical themes have always been an interest of mine. The Terminator is one of the first action movies I saw as a kid (at like 3-4 years old), and understanding the paradox was one of my favorite accomplishments at that point.

Paradoxes are meant to be impossible though, so you shouldn't think TOO much into them.
