President Donald Trump has said the US launched a "powerful and deadly strike" against the Islamic State (IS) group in north-western Nigeria.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president described IS as " terrorist scum", accusing them of "targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians".
He said the US military "executed numerous perfect strikes", without giving any further details. It is unclear what exactly targets were struck and when.
In November, Trump ordered the US military to prepare for action in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militant groups.
In his post late on Thursday, Trump said that "under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper".
In his warning back in November, the US leader did not say which killings he was referring to - but claims of a genocide against Nigeria's Christians have been circulating in recent months in some right-wing US circles.
Groups monitoring violence say there is no evidence to suggest that Christians are being killed more than Muslims in Nigeria, which is roughly evenly divided between followers of the two religions.
An adviser to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu told the BBC at the time that any military action against the jihadist groups should be carried out together.
Daniel Bwala said Nigeria would welcome US help in tackling the Islamist insurgents but noted that it was a "sovereign" country.
He also said the jihadists were not targeting members of a particular religion and that they had killed people from all faiths, or none.
President Tinubu has insisted there is religious tolerance in the country and said the security challenges were affecting people "across faiths and regions".
Trump earlier announced that he had declared Nigeria a "Country of Particular Concern" because of the "existential threat" posed to its Christian population. He said "thousands" had been killed, without providing any evidence.
This is a designation used by the US state department that provides for sanctions against countries "engaged in severe violations of religious freedom".
Following this announcement, Tinubu said his government was committed to working with the US and the international community to protect communities of all faiths.
Jihadist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have wrought havoc in north-eastern Nigeria for more than a decade, killing thousands of people - however most of these have been Muslims, according to Acled, a group which analyses political violence around the world.
In central Nigeria, there are also frequent clashes between mostly Muslim herders and farming groups, who are often Christian, over access to water and pasture.
Deadly cycles of tit-for-tat attacks have also seen thousands killed - but atrocities have been committed on both sides.
Human rights group say there is no evidence that Christians have been disproportionately targeted.

Aside from the loosely entertaining irony of the whole "President Peace" moniker, I can't say I'll ever sympathise with IS terrorists.

Obviously the key is actually hitting the terrorists and knowing what you're doing, so it will be worth following Christmas Day Carnage 2025 to see exactly how it unfolds and not how it sounds on paper.

FWIW I wonder if this is linked:

Turkey working with US and other countries to bring down IS networks seeking to launch "attacks across Christmas and New Year".

A fully dismantled Islamic State would be a fantastic achievement even if it won't bring the Nobel Peace Prize any closer.

I think this is just what Jesus would want on his birthday.

Very Christ like….

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8

“There is a time for everything… a time for war, and a time for peace.”

Deuteronomy 20:1–4

“When you go out to war against your enemies… the Lord your God is with you… to fight for you against your enemies, to give you victory.”

Don’t act like war is unchristian. Read the Bible.

Does it have to be a Trump branded Bible or will any bible work?

I said “Christ Like” not Christian. I don’t think the majority of Christians act like Jesus. Most act just the opposite, hence the hypocrisy.

Also, both quotes you provided are from the Old Testament. Do you have any quotes from Jesus about attacking and killing others? I’m pretty sure he said just the opposite.

Jesus didn’t involve himself in politics. He also never commented on war and he didn’t need to because we already had the Old Testament and Jesus just came to complete it.

Jesus was about personal forgiveness. Jesus is also the God in the Old Testament, what God said in the Old Testament is literally pretty much what Jesus says.

He whipped a bunch of greedy religious hypocrites using his religion for personal gain. Christian’s love using that story as an excuse to be assholes to people.

Jesus came not to abolish the Law and Prophets but to fulfill them, John 5:39

Yes he did he said not to be afraid of war, even though wars are a sign of the end (revelations) the end will still come. While Jesus teaching can point to pacifism, it also can point to war being used as the lesser of two evil. Jesus word should be used for personal conduct, not politics.

That’s why religion and state were separated.

AIt is unchristian. You’re quoting Old Testament verses. The New Testament supersedes the Old Testament in any cases where they conflict. Jesus was pretty clear on his thoughts about war.

Those two quotes came from the old testament, before Christ was born

I can see what you are saying about Jesus being God and therefore he actually is the crazy world killing maniac of the Old Testament.

I think you could also see that Jesus had much more teachings in the New Testament that were completely against war and killing. I would say there is much more direct proof of this position of Jesus as man.

So I would ask you, do you believe Jesus would be OK with dropping bombs of people?
