Changed my opinion on O'Malley

While I make fun of his appearance, I don't judge him on that.

I judge him for moronically going around saying his very real loss didn't count. And the like.

Everyone seems to remember that fight as a doctor stoppage or something. I dunno.
Not that he got literally KOed with elbows on the ground after he he got leg kicked.

Nah more like I give credit where it’s due and don’t let my emotions lead me to dishonesty.

I know your approach is very different, you cling to a fighters nuts, and you never release that grip no matter what that fighter does. They could literally find bodies of dead children in Izzy’s fridge and you would still defend him and stand by him. Yeah you really a a true fanboy, not a fool like me who changes his opinion when the evidence and facts go against it.

{<hhh]

Agree with everything OP said, except I always felt that way about him. Crazy appearance but seems really chill and level headed overall. Boy got dem hands Fa sho too!

no, you just sound like every generation talking about the ones coming up behind them.
Which means that about 20 years from now some clueless kid will be responding to your sensible observation with the same lame meme.

I like someone now that they’ve won a few times - the post.

I mean if you can easily disregard a guy having a tattoo of a convicted :eek::eek::eek::eek:phile snitch then I suppose your powers of forgiveness are greater than mine
Yeah ok, I never said I like him.

I’m basically saying, I thought he was just an overhyped weirdo, but he proved me wrong and turned out to be better that I thought. My compliments were about the way he handles himself as a fighter, I made it very clear what I think of his whole persona.

im not the one complaining about, “kids these days”????

he is angling to take a boxing fight and be out of mma for at least a year if that actually happens.

He's gonna be a 50 year old with face tattoos someday
And a 69 tattoo on his shoulder. I think a lot of his generation will have face tattoos but only he and a special other someone will have the 69 tattoos.

I judged him after he mocked ppl who won't try heroin just because they're afraid they might get addicted. I thought he was an idiot.

But he seems to have grown and I have no clue if he still holds those views. And I don't care. I find him less interesting as a person than most fighters by far, but I don't care.

The kid can really fight intelligently when he's dialed in. He's a very good striker and MMA fighter and has an exciting style. Great footwork and distance control and angles.

So I look at it as any man who would tattoo 69 on his body is not a guy I can possibly respect as a human entity but I don't care - he doesn't need my respect, and certainly not for his entityhood. I can respect the guy as a fighter. He's a good one.

some guys bother me and some don't. o' malley never bothered me, i'm not really sure what rubs other people the wrong way but i don't really see it. i mean most fighters are cocky, that's not exactly news.

He's still got it

Now I'm more informed about Lesnar, but if he makes a lot of money it shouldn't be an issue. It's not like O'Malley is ever going to have to clock in at a job, or at least he shouldn't if he's smart with his money. Other zoomers with face tats without money are screwed yes lol.

Not an issue, O'Malley will be fine.

At the very beginning you could definitely consider me a hater cause the whole schtick and the UFC push.

I'm still not a fan of the schtick, I mean the guy looks fucken ridiculous at least aesthetically represents a whole generation of fentanyl addicted degenerates, and attention seeking narcissists.

That said, to be fair to O'Malley, he only seems to use the image to get him that extra hype, but doesn't actually act like a complete idiot. He doesn't really embrace any heel persona, he just kinda looks silly and cringe, but for the most part comes across as intelligent and calculated both verbally and obviously in his fighting style.

I was still rooting against him vs Yan, but after that fight I quietly told myself that this kid is both pretty good, and pretty entertaining, and is actually probably not the douchebag he looks like. Piotr was clearly triggered at the weigh in and gave him a shove which is always pretty douche, and to Sean's credit he took it like a complete professional and went out and did what he needed to do.

Going into the Sterling fight I was very perplexed about who I wanted to win... on the one hand I still considered the fact that O'Malley as champ will probably bring back the insufferable Conor-type turds to the mma community, but on the other hand I never took Aljo all that seriously as supposedly the top BW... and not to bash him or anything, the guy has some real skills and obviously accomplished a lot, but the thought of him leaving BW as champ didn't really sit well with me either.

At the end of the day, O'Malley is a guaranteed exciting fight regardless of who they match him up with, and his skills are undeniably impressive, and aside from his appearance the guy is really not that obnoxious, the things he says are well measured, he's not just spewing garbage, and he seems pretty realistic and level headed in his outlook. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I'm a fan, but I can appreciate him and enjoy his fights. He's still very young but he already shows more maturity and mental fortitude than someone like Izzy for example, who I want to like but he just makes it impossible for me.

I always root for people who win by striking, more of a striking fan personally. Sean rise and highlights are great but between his legs giving out, and speed and style energy dump, I just thought he might be a top 10 to 5 guy. But in this fight, he played it so well technically and showcased power that I thought this kind of Sean can do well at top 5 since top 5 is another class in their own.

If I was to say what we overlooked, is Sean having power at the top 5. His power was showcased in his rise. We thought that would stick, but now, I think he showed he can still perform it at top 5. Also, he is only 28...I believe he has become a better fighter...like Justin who KO kick Dustin last fight. Justin sort of similar story, but now Justin is more cautious and smart...I look forward to his fights as well. But if Sean keeps this style, and looked so fresh in this fight...yeah I see Sean going a long way.

I think this strategy vs sterling can go a long way between both grapplers and good strikers in his division. Only time will tell of course. But I rather see a KO or TKO vs a grappling submission...just my biased like in how someone wins. Man..I don't know what to think but I am excited now to see what he does next....just like Justin.

I always thought Barboza could have followed this..kind of strategy too but felt he never changed for the better...I think Sean has come into his own right now.

Oh BTW, there was a sherdog post before the fight, where a sherdogger said..."Am I the only one rooting for Sean to win"...yeah most of the post responses doubted him or laughed at him....Like the only fan was the guy who posted...I was about to post to it...but, I felt so disappointed as a fan for Sean...that I just turned away in response to it. I think we expected the old Sean..but this new Sean..I hope it grows cause he looked amazing..

Someone can say...oh your just a fan cause he won...NO, I always root for strikers period. I like seeing them pull it off vs grapplers. I liked Cro Cop, Melvin Manhoef, Izzy, Alex Pereira(all the glory fighters), Conor at 145, Vitor Belfort, Hendo, or anyone who uses their time to out strike the grappler...good thing, is now, grapplers can take you down but if they don't display damage judges wont get biased on you now...or Jack Della Maddalena would have lost to Bassil Haze so I think the UFC is more exciting..I know DC and Domnick Cruz won't like that but I do..if you don't get damage I agree it should not be rewarded.

I agree with the gist of what you're saying.

But at the same time, I can't change my opinion O'Mally just had the three luckiest fights that resulted in a title win.

Pedro Munoz - Munoz was pretty clearly winning the fight before that mystery eyepoke.

Petr Yan - The vast majority of everyone but the official judges scored it 29-28 for Yan.

Aljo Sterling - Aljo very clearly is the better fighter, but O'Malley hit him perfectly with that counter-punch.

That said, Aljo also was a fighter that was gifted the championship although it was very clear he wasn't the best of division. Same with O'Malley, but its very possible that like Aljo he can rise to the occasion and eventually be considered the best of the division.
