Theory of relativity says it's impossible for the CERN to create a black-hole like this. I've heard somewhere that to create an actual black hole CERN would have be longer then we could fit on this planet and require more energy then we could ever produced.

Even if Einstein is wrong, Hawking's theories show a mini-black hole expels more radiation the smaller they are and would collapse upon itself immediately, posing no threat.

They are looking for mini-black holes to prove the existence of alternate dimensions. They didn't have enough power until this year because of gravity's rainbow. The idea is not to create a world ending black hole, its to prove the existence of other dimensions.

I think you're thinking of some movie.

The attempt to understand the basic "building blocks" of nature, of why particles have mass and don't all zip along at the speed of light (like the photon) is, if there's any reason, why we are here.

As far as Hawking and his more "out there" theorizing, well, theoretical physics requires a big imagination. Some of what he likes to babble about is science fiction, that he himself would categorize as such.
