1) This was written when the sub-forum S+C was strength and power with a separate conditioning sub forum.

2) Pictures and physique definitely are a gauge of ones physical capabilities.

3) Squat or GTFO

Take some ibuprofen..
Now that is just the most stupid suggestion I have ever read.

When you are fucking hurting, it's your body telling you to slow the fuck down, because you ain't adjusted yet or you overtrained. So by taking this pills you will just mask the pain, but the damage is still there.

mate if you've got a huge belly then i'm sorry you are not an athlete
and what's the point of squatting 500 pounds when you can't run a mile under 60 min

This is a valid view point.

However, if you want to improve your propensity to lift heavy shit, you should probably listen to the man that knows how to lift heavy shit; regardless of how many cartwheels they can do, or how many miles they can skip.

im just saying
he posted his pics the other day and didnt know what he looked like but from his posts and advices and shit, i imagined him to be built like a wanderlei or something
i mean u can lift a ton on the bench squat and deadlift but don't have the agility speed endurance then what's the point? in fight sports or in everyday life
I used to lift heavy so please dont say i dont know what im talking about but i gave it all up because all the strength wasnt functional and you just look fat!
i know focus on long runs, intervall running, hills, pullups, pushups, pylos, dips, skipping, boxing and i feel much much stronger than when i used to bench 150k.
im much slimmer and feel better aswell. just my opinion

If this was a thread on something Helio Gracie wrote about getting better at Jiu-jitsu, would you ask, "what's the point of getting good at jiu-jitsu if you can't box?"

Christ you're a moron. There's people out there who specialize in certain areas. If you want to get good at jiu-jitsu, you might want to listen to one of the best regardless of his other skills, or lack thereof. If you want to get stronger, why wouldn't you want to listen to a man who can squat over 700 lbs? You take the advice on strength training and apply it to your own goals. Your goals apparently being to look and speak like an emo ***got.

first of all no need for insults internet warrior cus im pretty sure i'd knock you out with one shot.
my point is strength is not squatting 700 pounds, its fucking useless and unnatural and will cause problems when your older.
real strength is to be able to fight 5 5min rounds at full blast and knock your opponent the fuck out

All of this idiocy in Carnal's treatise...make it stop.

Irony. You must train UFC.

my point is strength is not squatting 700 pounds,

Apparently strength to you is all about doing bodyweight exercises only. And by doing "functional" exercises. I guess that's why push-ups and chin-ups will help you in a fight.. oh wait!! Also, I can spin your argument back on you so you can see how silly you sound; strength is not doing a one armed pull-up. See what I did there? :icon_chee

its fucking useless and unnatural and will cause problems when your older.

Like knee problems? But fighting won't cause you problems when you're older See what I did there too?

real strength is to be able to fight 5 5min rounds at full blast and knock your opponent the fuck out

So that's the definition of strength! Good to know! :P

Put out. This is harder than it sounds. Talk is cheap, really pushing yourself is fucking hard. So learn how to do it. It'll take some time, but eventually you'll learn how to push beyond what you thought you were capable of. Really heavy sets often come down to your will vs. your body

Holy fuck. Awesome fucking read. Makes me want to go lift heavy shit rightfuckingnow.

I'm just getting back into lifting about a month ago after taking a year off. I lifted for about four years before that, mostly in a "bodybuilding" style, some strength work thrown in occasionally.

I think I'm going to get into the Starting Strength program.

I haven't read this for years. I feel my age now as I was one of the few people who used to read Carnal's posts regularly (despite some of the more deviant stuff...).

I wonder if any of the old timers post here anymore?
