CAPTAIN MARVEL v.2 (First Critics Reviews)

Well the thing is, Captain Marvel in the comics isn't popular. Her solo comic was cancelled (due to low sales) and relaunched 7-8 times.

I know Guardians of the Galaxy was obscure but the marketing for that had fun action and one of the most charismatic characters in the MCU, Starlord. Captain Marvel's trailers just seem boring and generic.

Captain America's first movie was kinda bland but the fanbase loved Cap from the comics so it did well

Very valid points. MCU definitely reached a level, though, at least in my thought process, where the properties don't even have to be huge successes as comics or cartoon adaptations or what have you to then draw fans in for the film. Doctor Strange may be a huge character from a significance standpoint, but he's certainly not the type of character that I imagine would have drawn the box office numbers it did if that film had been released, say, in 2007. The overall scope of the cinematic universe ends up drumming up the success of the subsequent entries.

And maybe Doctor Strange is sort of bad example because that trailer looked dope, but even if Captain Marvel wasn't an exceptional trailer (I thought it looked quite entertaining but can see your point), it still stands to reason that the fervor and interest in Endgame is going to help to increase the interest and overall dollars spent on Captain Marvel.

Factor in too that this is the first MCU movie in like seven months, which doesn't sound like a long time at all but is for fans when they were conditioned to expect one every three months from Guardians 2 to Spider-Man Homecoming to Ragnarok to Black Panther to Infinity War to Ant-Man and The Wasp. That's one year and a half where the gap between entries was about half of what the gap between AM and Wasp and Captain Marvel has been.

@PrettyGuy3 @fdswer I deleted your flame posts. I advise you to stop bickering with each other. Pls keep it civil in this thread. Don't make it personal. Thanks.

Random thought from a Comic book fan viewpoint Civil War 1 Cap vs IM was Iconic and fun. Civil War 2 CM vs IM was cringey and forgettable and CM came off as extremely unlikable .

i googled the character and holy shit......captain marvel has to be the least interesting character ever. basically they wanted to copyright the name, so they had to put out a few comic books every couple years to keep it. then they just changed who it was every couple years, sometimes it was a man, sometimes a woman......yea, i really an interested

The current Captain Marvel was previously Ms. Marvel and at one point Binary. She then got the title of Captain Marvel only recently. She is a little more interesting.

On the JRE Joe Rogan and co were talking about Captain Marvel but I can't find the actual full clip....

Joe was like: "Who IS Captain Marvel really?" in a confusing tone.

Does anyone have the clip? I'd love to hear what Joe, Eddie, and Brendan were saying about Captain Marvel.

I only learned this about 4 years ago from the film's announcement....I was so confused. Then I realized "Oh it's that woman Rogue absorbed her powers from" followed by wait...she wasn't even that powerful! Is Rogue that powerful as well?

What happened with Rogue was early 80s. Ms. Marvel was about that powerful back then. She lost her powers to Rogue and was in a coma for a little while. When she became Binary she had a different set of powers that was much stronger. Then she got her original powers back and still has her Binary powers which is I believe energy absorption and projection.

I wonder about that if I can go serious for a moment.

Hela with that look in her eye was standing up to a prophecy invincible Surtur with dat flaming blade.

Her greatest power display is the manifestation of knives and swords she can hurl. I guess Thanos could just turn them all into butterflies or confetti. did she demonstrate any other feats, beyond some good hand to hand with Thor?

Was I the only one actually cheering for the crazy bitch at that point?

I bet if you shaved that beard and concentrated it into a ball it would create a seventh infinity stone

<{1-7}>

Cap's Beard is actually the son of Chuck Norris' Beard. True story:)

No. I wanted her to survive and maybe even have a part in Infinity War as a stand in for Death.

At the time I had no idea where the Russo Bros were going with Thanos, but if adapting the courting Lady Death Thanos, then here we have an already established Goddess who calls herself the Goddess of Death.

Now in retrospect MCU Thanos in MCU Hela would probably be trying to destroy each other. It would be an interesting match up (Thanos sans IG, or Thanos w/ power stone vs. Hela).

As long as the gardener from Phoenix has a superpower lol.

I haven't read any Captain Marvel solo comics but when she appears in team-up issues, I get the feeling Binary is powerful but still can't take down the likes of full training camp Thor / Hulk / Dr. Strange

They could shut her up with a phone call.

"Hey Bree, have you ever noticed the black guy playing War Machine in the second Iron Man movie is a different black guy that was in the original Iron Man movie?"
It was a different black guy??

Binary was considered Class 100 which means top tier Marvel with upper limits basically undefined.

Strength Level: The energies that Binary taps give her Class 100 strength, She can lift (press) over 100 tons.

Isn't 100 tons what base level Thor can lift? Powered up Thor should do that no problem. Hulk can do that after a minute of getting angry. Doc Strange just has hax powers.

I don't buy too much into that "undefined upper limit" thing. A lot of writers do that to hype the character. Perfect Cell back in DBZ was said to have "infinite power level" and then got destroyed by Gohan. Now in Dragon Ball Super, Cell is a can compared to where the characters are now.

oh ya. Things can swing wide based on who is writing the characters. Basically Level 100 just means they have not defined an upper limit and left it open with the potential of 'anything is possible' but based on 'feats' which is a better way to judge (we can only judge what they have ACTUALLY done) she is not up there with uber Thor or Dr Strange with that look in his eye.

I see you didn't mention The Hulk. Is there a USADA test result incoming?
