jolie is a terrific choice from an optics standpoint. In addition to a strong female director telling the story of a strong female superhero, she has the profile to attract non-comic book fans. The press loves her, she has no problem doing interviews, she

John Ridley Developing Mystery Marvel TV Project for ABC

ABC is looking to expand its relationships with Marvel and John Ridley. The network is teaming with the Oscar-winning producer behind 12 Years a Slave and its midseason drama American Crime to develop a new Marvel show, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, the new project is described as a reinvention of an existing Marvel superhero character or property. As with all Marvel development, other details are being closely guarded and kept under wraps.

For Ridley, the Marvel project would mark an extension of his relationship with ABC, where he's under an overall deal with sibling ABC Studios. While anthology American Crime has not been a ratings breakout, network brass including honcho Paul Lee, are high on the series — and want to be in business with Ridley.

Rumor: MS. MARVEL Is John Ridley's Mystery TV Project

John-Ridley-Ms-Marvel-Dragonlord.jpg

It was revealed by EW that John Ridley was hired by ABC to write a new, currently under-wraps Marvel project. Now, while still in major speculation territory, a new rumor floating around online suggests that project is in fact an adaptation of the current Ms. Marvel comic line starring a lead that would serve the network well considering its current rate of success with diverse casts.

ComicBookMovie managed to save the since deleted Reddit post that originally stated, "originally, ABC pitched [Ridley] Cloak and Dagger, since they've tried to develop it in the past, but Ridley took more interest in a certain Kamala Khan and decided to incorporate her into the MCU."

For the uninitiated, Kamala Khan has served as Marvel Comics' Ms. Marvel since February 2014 while Carol Danvers (the original Ms. Marvel) - a character confirmed to be receiving hew own feature film as part of the MCU's Phase Three - has held on to the Captain Marvel name since 2012.

In the same Reddit post, it's claimed Marvel's going to announce - presumably at the ABC upfronts in May - that Ridley is on Ms. Marvel, a project that will air in the winter break of a new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off being developed by two of the show's writers, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter return for another round on the schedule for seasons three and two respectively.

Carol also lost her memories due to Rogue stealing her powers. Professor X managed to restore them but she doesn't have any emotional connection to her memories. She spent some time as the X-Men's pilot and intelligence operative. Due to the experimentation of the Brood, the full potential of her powers were unlocked and she became Binary. After touring with the Starjammers, she lost her Binary powers but her Ms. Marvels were fully restored.

Blunt would be good for the role. I just think there are a few better choices before her.

For me, Chris Claremont's Ms. Marvel stories in the X-Men were much better than all her solo comics.

Well it looks like Emily is interested in the part she likes that Carol Danvers has a humorous side. She wants a role that can be action but also have lighthearted moments.

Apparently Joss was impressed with her part in Edge.

It's too early in Jolie's directorial career to say a lot about her, but I think she has potential. As you said, there are a bunch of compelling reasons for her to be the one to direct this. Unfortunately, the one thing lacking is experience and that is big.

I think biggest reason why she should not direct is she is humorless. I never known her for her witty come backs or lighthearted humor.

Not a fan of Jolie at all, even a little bit.

But I guess they're just adamant about having a female direct this film. Political brownie posts is all it is.

Agreed I hate Jolie. I'll admit that Salt caught me by surprise and I did enjoy that movie but overall I just don't like Jolie.

I don't see how she became a director all of sudden either. This is the second movie I've heard about her directing.

Waah!

Avengers: Age of Ultron ruined one of my favorite moments in my Captain Marvel story.

Guess I didn't see that coming.

I'm sick and tired of this ABC shit.

Everything made for network tv is done with kid gloves. It's frustrating.

Netflix or bust.

How many directors are known for their witty comebacks?

That news report sounds dubious, PEB. And lol at the credited writer just labeled as "Staff Writer."

According to that "report", Joss Whedon is going to direct the Captain Marvel movie. There's been no such reports, rumors or rumblings about this development.

I just watched P2 in HD with the spectacular natural cleavage, and Rachel Nichols would make the absolutely perfect Ms. Marvel with the wedgie bare hip costume!!!

no one likes that "minimally talented spoiled brat". How she has any leverage in Hollywood is beyond my understanding.

Ava DuVernay Courted for BLACK PANTHER and CAPTAIN MARVEL

Ava-DuVernay-Marvel-Dragonlord.jpg

Marvel is courting Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay to direct one of its diverse superhero movies, which include Black Panther and Captain Marvel, multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation have told TheWrap. Insiders suggest that Black Panther, due first in July 2018, is the most likely possibility.

Marvel has had discussions with DuVernay about taking the reins of one of its marquee comic book properties and while the studio is considering other directors, there is mutual interest in having her join the MCU.

A woman has never directed a Marvel movie, though the company did hire Patty Jenkins to direct Thor: The Dark World. Following creative differences, she was eventually replaced by Alan Taylor. Jenkins recently replaced Michelle MacLaren as the director of Wonder Woman at Warner Bros., which has been eager to beat Marvel to the proverbial punch when it comes to diversity within its comic book movie universe.

Insiders told TheWrap that Marvel is intent on hiring an African-American director for Black Panther and a female filmmaker for Captain Marvel. DuVernay’s hiring would make her Marvel’s first African-American and first female director, which would no doubt double as a public relations boon for the company.

Charlize-Theron-Captain-Marvel-060115-Dragonlord.jpg

Charlize Theron has formed a close friendship with Angelina Jolie. The Mad Max: Fury Road actress, who is rumored to be engaged to Sean Penn, has reportedly forged a friendship with her fellow Oscar winner after being introduced by the Maleficent star's husband Brad Pitt.

Like Angelina, South African-born Charlize, who has adopted three-year-old son Jackson, is involved in a lot of charity work and deeply respects the 39-year-old actress for raising six children.

The insider told US OK! magazine: "The guys have been tight for years and ever since Sean and Charlize became serious they've been spending a lot of time together as a foursome. The girls realized that they have a very similar outlook on life and quickly bonded over everything from their adopted children to their prospective Hollywood projects."

The duo are even hoping to work together on Captain Marvel, the comic giant's upcoming first female-led superhero film. The source said: "Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favorite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal."
