It also helps that Marvel Studios doesn't portray their characters as brooding, depressed individuals most of the time but instead tries to give them a more approachable, pleasing personality with some sense of humor.
Brooding done well is fine as with Nolan's Batman but DC's current style is like a 12 year old boys idea of serious cinema. Marvel's style is obviously larger than life and often comic but behind that I think the drama often tends to be more adult.
Thus far I'd say in the main arc plot Marvel has tended to balance power against mental strength so the likes of Cap, Widow and Hawk who are relatively weak in power are generally strong in drive were as the likes of The Hulk and Scarlet Witch who are strong in power are mentally unstable, Stark arguably sitting somewhere between the two.
Plus of course I don't think you can underestimate the advantage of having weaker characters providing a more human perspective. Part of the problem with DC I would say is that with all the Justice League being so powerful(even Batman having masses of technology) it makes threat harder to take seriously. Having Cap facing people down hand to hand gets across the scale of what the good guys are up against.
