Whether you do that or not, how much money do you personally intend to donate to house, clothe and feed undocumented immigrants? Nothing says compassion for your fellow man than making charitable donations to cause you believe in.

If it's not then it is only because that person hasn't been paying attention.

That said, of course in the metropolitan areas it's hardly an issue, as Canada has a fairly good immigration system (you can tell this because the NDP has been upset over it for at least a decade), and because of immigration patterns those immigrants are likely to enter into Liberal (and also liberal) areas, which leads to less confrontation from either side.

Not so long ago here in Toronto the Conservatives made a play into several "ethnic"/immigrant communities in an effort to unite those populations with their traditional base against Ontario's new sex-ed curriculum. It was an interesting case, where a party which is more closely aligned with the views of that population saw an impressive surge, but ultimately not enough to change those populations identification with the Liberal party.
