Can we all agree that Ben Askren

Its Jake Paul pretending to be so emotional over knocking out a complete bum in the 1st for me.

Amazing to read this thread and see so many people predicting that a pillow fisted and incompetent mma striker in bad shape was going to beat a stronger, faster, and heavier handed opponent with more pure boxing training.

Even if his opponent was an amateur, Ben had nothing for the guy even on paper. Which is exactly why the fight was made.

Should have put a bet on.

Can we all stop calling Askren the worst MMA striker ever. Because he is not. We have to admit, the level of boxing in MMA is shitty and I mean street fighting level shitty.

Got 1 shotted by like the most basic 1/2 combo that even Dana White probably taught at his boxercise class. Not like it was coming at him at some crazy speed either, it had a lot of windup.

Askren looked all kinds of wrong in there, from his movement, to clinching/reactions. Even with a hip replacement it makes little sense to how bad he looked. Both him and Woodley just fell of a cliff in less than 2 years.

Even when I see Mir or McGregor it's a disturbingly bad form. They don't snap the punches, they know only to push with the punch. Bad bad look for MMA and I was just starting to think there's evolution in this sport but in every division you can see it's bum level striking. I bet Ngannou gets beat by a medium level amateur boxer.

The fact that you guys had the confidence to call anything as a sure thing regarding this circus is amazing. I’ve been following boxing for 30 years and mma almost as long and I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen in this circus fight. Could Paul KO Askren? Sure, my Yorkshire terrier can KO Askren. Could askren ko Paul? Sure, Paul is a YouTuber with no real experience.

could they go to a boring draw sucking wind for the whole fight? Sure thing.

anything could have happened in this, it’s the nature and the allure of such bullshit promotions, so just sit back and enjoy de la Hoya being coked out of his brain because that was definitely the highlight of this event

Striking isn't just Boxing in MMA though... Wonderboy could kick Jake Paul's face off in a Kickboxing match.. Adesanya could break his legs too.

Imagine Ryan Garcia learning how to deal with something like this with his snappy punches

^Imagine thinking Barboza is a bum level striker lol

Is your tinfoil hat shaped like a boat or a triangle?
I concur im lol'ing at all the idiots who think you take a dive by taking a full powered hook to the face. the fight earlier where the guy faked a groin shot after getting hit in the liver is closer to what a real dive looks like.

Oh, you think it was real?

Ok.
it was a hundred percent real only an imbecile would agree to get punched that hard in the face to take a dive there are easier less painful and traumatic ways to take a dive.

the sad thing is ben should have been the more technical fighter he had been training striking for maybe a decade at least. the hell was he doing during the boxing training at his mma gym. he looked worse than some of the people I see at mma gyms with 6 months of boxing training.

Lol. The vast majority of people would agree to take one punch for a half million dollars.

Just stop it. Trying to justify last night's fiasco makes us look even worse. Don't even mention anyone from this generation. Let's hope 10 or 20 years from now this thing you and I love becomes a legitimate professional sport.

Not justifying shit, just pointing out Striking in MMA isn't just Boxing like you seem to think...

you said: "in every division you can see it's bum level striking."
which exposes you as a retard.

It went exactly as I imagined fyi.

.

It's exactly THIS attitude you have and MOST mixed martial gyms have that is stopping the progression in our sport. I get it when Joe Rogan is salivating talking about Wonderboy's and Barboza's kickboxing because it's his business, but coming from a self proclaimed hardcore fan, it's tragic.

You've lost me..

Understanding there is more to striking than just Boxing is just a simple truth, I don't understand what's so hard to understand.

My friend, I get it that there is more to striking than just boxing. What I am against is the attitude of many so called MMA experts telling me MMA striking is different and boxing doesn't apply there. It's just a camouflage for the incompetence. You have so called world champions that can't throw a proper jab. They simply learn to push with the punches from inadequate people in the early stages of their career and what baffles me more even elite fighters don't switch anything or add to their game. Same coaches, old bad habits.
