At what point are we going to acknowledge that Movsar Evloev is getting completely screwed over by the UFC? The guy is undefeated (18-0), ranked in the top 10, and has been calling for a top contender fight for YEARS, yet he keeps getting ignored while less deserving fighters jump the line.
Look at the facts:
He was supposed to fight Ilia Topuria when Ilia was still proving himself, but Ilia pulled out, then leapfrogged him into a title shot.
Hes on a 7-fight win streak in the UFC, has completely dominated everyone he’s fought, and yet the UFC refuses to push him.
Meanwhile, guys like Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega keep getting undeserved title eliminators after losses. Ilia Topuria literally skipped the line after fighting Josh Emmett, who was coming off a loss. And yet, somehow Movsar keeps getting overlooked.
At this point, it’s s obvious the UFC just doesn’t t want him anywhere near the title picture because they dont think he’s marketable. They are trying to protect their favorites while keeping Evloev stuck fighting down the rankings.
So can we finally admit it? Movsar Evloev is being blatantly screwed over, and it is getting ridiculous.
Unbelievably, I concur with you.
I am a big Ilia Topuria fan ... but quite a bit less so, if he doesn't stick around — defend his title successively, against the remaining really good contenders — and then move up in weight.
Ilia is still a young kid, and shouldn't be having weight issues at this early stage in his career. He also needs to prove himself more than a single title win, and a single defense, before moving up and trying to be P4P "anything."
Truly great P4P always have a significant run in their best weight division, before moving up to another.
Ilia is making a big career mistake, and a big legacy mistake, by failing to capitalize on his absolutely stellar run at FW. He could literally eclipse everyone in that division, if he wanted to, and Evloev would be an epic story for him in this division. Even if Topouria lost to Evloev, it could set up an historic rivalry for the ages.
If I were Topouria's manager I would ground this little man, slap his face, until he could see straight into what really constitutes a great fighting future — it isn't "running around" chasing weight divisions; it's establishing yourself FIRST, as a GREAT titleist, in your BEST division, and then start chasing titles.
The Old Bull versus The Young Bull mentality ...
