I've been there about three times twice in San Diego
and three times around the LA area traveled between the two cities when I went those times.

Anyways enjoyed my time there but I could never afford to live there.

So to those of my Cali sherbros what are the things you love and hate about you state from politics to cost of living ect.

How about rural areas of Cali? Is it affordable there?
 
You can probably buy a trailer home some where in the desert
 
I love that there is a little bit of everything here in Cali. From the big cities to nature. It is also very culturally diverse in the major metro and suburban cities. Good food, good weather in general. Of course all of that comes at a cost, but that can be mitigated with a strong income, not living in the VVHCOL area like Santa Clara county and living within your means.
 
We have everything here. Snow, ocean, mountains, lakes, rivers, dessert. The weather is mild where I live. The Sierra is fantastic. Northern California is great in the spring time. Overall crime is low. Bought my house at 28 for $275k so I'm pretty set. No homeless in my town.

Things I hate: Bakersfield up to redding and everything in between. The valley off I5 is crappy. Hot and ghetto. Non stop building houses more people more traffic

My family is here, born here never will leave. Just love the mild weather

I'd be surprised if things they love included cost of living. They've built around 3 million new homes in the last 40 years to accommodate a population growth of 14 million, which is why so many of the homes are older, smaller and still like triple the price of most other places.

I don't live there but we used to visit my grandparents there when I was a kid. Weather's obviously a major selling point and having beach, mountains and desert all in the same area is nice and Lake Tahoe and national parks. The state being covered in junkies and illegals is definitely a drawback.
 
As a movie buff it is the worst not living in LA. I constantly torture myself by looking at the schedules for the revival houses in the city with screening after screening of so many awesome movies usually shown in 35mm. It's a living hell.
 
I love living here. I lived in San Jose for a few years, very nearly bought 16 acres just outside of Redding in Shasta County and now live in the desert.
NorCal is legit the best climate of the four countries and states I've lived in but the house I wanted in San Jose was a good 1.6 million for what I have here in SoCal. 3 hours from LA, Vegas and Laguna Beach.
The routinely 115f here in SoCal is definitely something to get used to but such an adventure and of the cities, states and countries I've lived the only place I wanted to buy a house. The house I backed out of has no power often and is really remote.

I love being Californian.
 
I love it here. It costs a lot. But you typically make more money here. Still, idk if it’s necessarily a one to one relationship between how much more it costs here versus your current residence, and how much more you would make in your current job.

San Diego is great. I don’t love LA just because everyone there is so fucking vapid. You get some of that in SD, but not so much.

I live in Northern California. The weather isn’t quite as good. But it’s just people living their lives, not trying to become actors.

I like the low property taxes a lot. Also, Napa valley is real close, so that’s great. We’ll take day trips there from time to time. Or we’ll drive up the coast to Mendocino and stay a few nights. It is beautiful up there, and on the way up there.

Sadly the movie industry is dying.
 
I got some friends in North CA and would love to go visit them. Lots of good hiking up and landscape photography opportunities there (got a field camera).
 
Cali is too expensive and too congested, LA, SD, SF doesn't matter.

Frankly I have little interest in modern movies. I'm talking about the revival houses that play old movies, those screenings are very popular, and show little sign of dying, people love it.

Today they are screening All the President's Men at The Egyptian and Rear Window at the Aero both in 35mm. And a 2000's horror marathon at the New Beverly...

That's just today! Every month has countless screenings of old and obscure films to watch.

What city do you live in? Im lookinhg to get out of the bay, population increase here is too much for me.
