Opinion California on fire

Yea but I also remember Rogan saying that he spoke to a firefighter who said eventually there is going to be a fire that burns it all down and there wont be anything they can do to stop it.
So because some random firefighter said that, it means they shouldn't even try to prepare for the worst case scenario? If there's nothing to burn, fires don't spread as fast. That's where forest conservation comes into play. Officials had pretty much ignored clearing burnable brush and trees as conservationists lobbied for the areas to remain "unspoiled" for wildlife. They sure are unspoiled now.
Does it also mean they shoiuld cut the firefighters budget because they won't be able to do anything about it anyway? Does it mean they shouldn't bother building infrastructure so they have enough generators and pumps to keep water pressure in the hoses?
California spends billions of dollars on the homeless and drug addicts with nothing to show for it but hell yeah, let's let it all burn down. What the hell do the taxes those people pay go for?

Ha!! There you @Rational Poster. lol.. Who's the dumbass now

There was a reservoir for this kind of situation... its completely nuts it was offline.

FYI - When my company is working Water Treatment plants, we're required to only take critical equipment during low demand seasons and any critical infrastructure must be back online when high demand season arrives.

Heads are going to roll here... This is gross negligence

All those assholes who were one the news trying explain why the hydrants lost water knew this already. Guarenteed... and they purposely omitted this information? Why? Because they know they might was put their head in the noose themselves at that points.

Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline and empty when firestorm exploded

A large reservoir in Pacific Palisades that is part of the Los Angeles water supply system was out of use when a ferocious wildfire destroyed thousands of homes and other structures nearby.

Officials told The Times that the Santa Ynez Reservoir had been closed for repairs to its cover, leaving a 117 million gallon water storage complex empty in the heart of the Palisades.

The revelation comes among growing questions about why firefighters ran out of water while battling the blaze. Numerous fire hydrants in higher-elevation streets of the Palisades went dry, leaving firefighters struggling with low water pressure as they combated the flame

Can't have fire breaks or clear fuel because of the migration patterns of mice? LoL

that is a goddamn massive reservoir

The cover was torn, which means the water would have been legally undrinkable. Hence it was empty. You seem to be arguing that the DWP should have had a crystal ball and prioritized repairs in one party over the county versus another. Not to mention water pressure still wouldn't have been sufficient.

Try getting tour news from actual journalists instead of propaganda outlets.

I suppose next you're going to blather on about LAFD getting its budget cut when in fact their budget was higher this year than last.

Disagree. The reason we have affirmative action is partly because how government organizations like fire departments have have had significant problems racially integrating. Most everyone agrees that the racial makeup of things like fire departments and police departments should loosely reflect the racial makeup of the communities they serve.
Agreed that is more important than having functions systems. I would rather have a person of color let my house burn down than have a white guy put out the fire.

I honestly don't know or really care I don't live in Cali. I just brought it up because I remember Rogan saying this a very long time ago and now it feels like we're watching it happen. It reminded me once about what one of the home builders said about my area and hurricanes. He basically said we can prepare and prepare. Build houses higher and higher. At the end of the day though if we have a hurricane\tropical storm that sits over us for days dropping massive amounts of rain we are going to have massive flooding and there's nothing that can be done about it.

The National Guard has arrived to help with the fires

Regardless of why it was offline... It was offline for the most devastating event in Los Angeles history. And the questions are going start pouring in.... because people have died and there's now estimates that rebuilding will top $150 billion, with some saying up to $500 billion.

A complete government failure.

Maybe they should have left the water in it, but isolated from the main system until these winds passed. Fire is a real danger with these winds. There's always options.

Dude... I work in Municipal Water projects for the my career, 20+ years. They have these discussions all the time during construction projects.

The people who work in these Government jobs have one concern about all else;

"Cover your Ass"

Because when the shit hits the fan, you don't want to be in the crosshairs. And the shit has never hit the fan in the US like this, except maybe Katrina. Someone's head is going to roll.

When the music stops and all the assholes try to grab a chair to sit in, one person is going to be left standing and will end up taking the arrows.

You can only hire from the pool of candidates that apply. Ever wonder why there aren't a ton of Asian and Indian cops or firefighters? It's because they don't go into that line of work. Not because there is a huge conspiracy by racists to keep them out.

A cadet that lives in Monterey doesn't just go through the highway patrol training and then get on with the Monterey highway patrol and begin working there. They have to go to whatever office around the state has available positions. The available positions are always in the same places. East LA, SF, San Jose, San Bernardino etc. The shitty and/or expensive areas that no one wants to live in or patrol. Once they've done a number of years on the force, they've gained the seniority to start being able to compete for the jobs in the cheaper or easier to patrol areas. It goes by seniority, not skin color, gender or any other bullshit immutable characteristic that has nothing to do with one's ability to put in the time and effort to be a police officer.
