Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

wwe does this too, they're called plants

This is a very common practice in Mexico. We call them "acarreados". Poiltical parties will buy off people so that they will support/cheer politicians.

He should do the Tito Ortiz where he holds both the Mexican and American flag. It looks strange that the UFC only advertises him with the Mexican flag, seeing as he is more American then he can ever be (nationally) Mexican.

Like most people if it's good they will want to associate themselves with it, regardless of how thin the association. If Cain were robbing liquor stores then I'm sure Mexicans would deny that he is really Mexican. They would insist that "No, no, no, no he is AMERICAN."

This whole Cain and Mexico ordeal is getting out of control. Every 4 or 5 threads mentions it. The last time I remember this big of a deal was Bisping and Britain.

This nothing new, nor nothing to wine about. Last few UFC Japans were not headlined by Japanese, you did not see the Japanese cry over it.

For what it's worth, on the main card Yair Rodr

Quite frankly, it bothers me. I am a first-generation American with parents who fled from Cuba shortly after the Cuban Revolution. I was raised around Cuban family, Cuban food, Cuban music, etc. but I went to American schools, listened to American radio, watched American TV, played American sports, etc. I have always considered myself American and rightly so.

I do not mind people embracing the cultures of their family's country of origin. As a matter of fact, I think it's great and it's part of the American experience. But when someone prioritizes their family's foreign land over the land that allowed their family to flourish and prosper, then I have a problem. Cain should pack his bags and move to Mexico and practice what he preaches.

Do you get to see him more than the people on this forum? Just curious. You seem to really know a lot about him.

I don't pay attention to TUF... weren't they going to do a TUF of only fighters from Mexico? What happened to that? Or did it never happen? I also rememeber some talk of it helping 125's depth and all so I'm wondering why Zuffa never tapped into the Mexican pool.

I know what I see and hear from Cain. Never even a mention of the country that he was born and raised in.

Who cares? I just want to see the man fight.

Hes proud of who he is and where his family came from... whats wrong with that?

'Cause people like to make a big deal about trivial things.

What, like his brown pride tattoo ? The dude is proud to be brown... and has a black and white best friend.... he clearly isnt racist

I don't see the big deal with that tattoo either.

Anyway, they say he isn't Mexican 'cause he doesn't speak Spanish well. But so what? Dude is ethnically a Mexican. Yeah, he's a US citizen as well. But his ethnicity is Mexican. People don't understand that simple fact.

Because he and the UFC marketing machine are rubbing it in our face all the time.

Because they are self-righteous? That's typically the case when arguing about how a person should see themselves.

Because he and the UFC go so out of his way to hype him up as Mexican when really, in fact, he isn't. Plus, what else do you have to talk about in terms of Cain: his exciting personality or his amazing fighting schedule? Oh wait...
