Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

Surprised Henry Cejudo isn't on the main card, he talked about his parents being born in mexico city and he speaks fluent spanish. He's a beast and I bet he's going to win a lot of fans saturday night.

For many, including Cain and myself, heritage>nationality. Frankly the whole "the nation that gave you opportunities" argument seems ridiculous to me. Nations are just entities that rob and steal from each other, and in large part enslave their citizens in some way or another. Heritage, or ethnicity, is in your blood, it goes where ever you go, and is not changed by your birth place. Heritage is passed down from generation to generation, and is passed directly to you by the very people that gave you life. Your ethnicity is shaped by the choices and trials your ancestors have gone through, and though your own way of being is impacted by the world you grow up in at the core is all that genetic "memory" given to you by your forebears.

If you disagree with me, or see things differently, I completely understand.
Quality post

Even if someone is not quite the cynic on the nationality aspect, that was a compelling post for why heritage would be important to people. Especially if they were socialized in the culture.

There are many Mexican fighters at UFC 188:

Cain being one of them.

Maybe you meant Mexican fighters not born in Mexico? You should edit your title.

I'm sure Mexican heritage is worth something to them.

starting at the 0:28 mark

Amazing, they are actually embracing Cain as a representative for Mexico. That's some great PR job by the UFC

just be thankful he did not fell down and tore something..

Weird. Sherdog told me all the Mexicans would cheer Werdum and that he should be the favorite but they won't even bet 1$ on him at +450 odds.

I am on the Werdum warwagon but I have a soft spot in my heart for Cain and would not be upset at all if he takes it. I have a mountain of respect for someone that honors their heritage. And why wouldn't they embrace him?

I just dislike that brown pride tat.I don't think anything when it comes to humanity should come down to colour.

Um isn't the currncy peso's???

Sad to see a Sherdogger with 6K posts resorting to clickbait threads like this.

not really, I mean look at the whole card... it's mostly "Latino". I myself feel a little manipulated even though I'm not Mexican. How about just some honest straight up ass-kickings and not trying to mess with people's heritage and sentiments?

And what? They won't instantly sell out a huge arena twice in two years?

They have last names that would suggest they could be Mexicans but none of them are really Mexicans. Don't you think the Mexican fans will feel a little manipulated once they find out? Isn't it a little too obvious?

Absolutely correct.. If Connor MCgregor has a child in the US they wouldn't be Irish... Perfect logic.

They are getting legit money for undercards now. To compare it to other combat sports, Al Haymon is putting expensive world title bouts on more popular cable channels and getting out drawn by prelims.

Perfect

Good thing Mexico is the same in English as in Spanish. Otherwise Cain would have to idea what they're saying.
