I'm absolutely shocked by the news that I just now saw.

I can't believe he is cable of sch acts like you say he is a family man and not into non sense like this.
Until we know the whole story, we really can't judge why. On the topic of being a family man, love can make you do crazy things. For all we know, his wife could have cheated on him and he shot the dude she cheated on him with. Not saying this is fact, but possible.

Is it possible this could be self defense?

San Jose police are investigating a shooting near Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue, near Sobrato High School.

Sources with direct knowledge of the investigation confirm for NBC Bay Area that the shooting reported Monday involves UFC and WWE star Cain Velasquez.

Police will only say one man has been taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and another man has been arrested. It is unclear how Velasquez is involved.

The former UFC heavyweight champion and wrestling star was born in Salinas and lives in the South Bay.

The shooting, which was reported at 3:14 p.m., happened near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue, police said.

Further information regarding the shooting wasn't immediately available.

Update:

Although Cain Velasquez's involvement in a shooting that took place Monday remains unclear, online records show that he's being detained in a Santa Clara (Calif.) County jail without bail.

Mod Note: please stay on topic. This is not an excuse to discuss gun control. If you’d like to do so, please head over to the war room where gun control is a welcomed topic. You should update the title to charged with attempted murder

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez charged with attempted murder after shooting incident

https://www.cbssports.com/mma/news/former-ufc-heavyweight-champion-cain-velasquez-charged-with-attempted-murder-after-shooting-incident/

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is facing an attempted murder charge. Velasquez was arrested in San Jose, California, on Monday night after allegedly shooting someone, the San Jose Police Department confirmed in a statement.

The other man involved was sent to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

"The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time," the statement read.

Velasquez (14-3) has long been considered among MMA's greatest heavyweights, a distinction he may have held on his own if not for multiple injuries that derailed his career. Velasquez went on a perfect 9-0 run, including a first-round knockout of Pride and UFC legend Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, to capture the UFC heavyweight championship by defeating Brock Lesnar via first-round TKO. He stumbled in his first title defense against Junior dos Santos, but he reclaimed the championship against dos Santos and defeated his rival in their trilogy bout.

Like I said, Most cases don't go to trial. Lawyers talk down charges and deals are made, and chances are he has pretty good lawyers. Chances are he'll take a plea deal instead of risk being convicted of the full charge and spending the next fifteen or twenty years in prison.

At no point did I say "Well, I mean he's probably guilty. He was charged after all."

That's a hilarious backtrack. You clearly assumed his guilt.

You don't even know if they will go for premeditated or not and you're already coming up with prison sentences. Stop typing and wait to see what happens instead of making ridiculous statements.

Only 46% legally own a gun in the first place
How would you even know that? You’re saying 54% of people with guns own them illegally? How would you even know??? Lol bullshit statistic.

I can buy a gun right now without a concealed carry permit and carry it on my hip in plain view and walk down the street legally and I don’t even have to provide identification if a cop asks me for it. So there’s no way that 46% number could even be accurate because I wouldn’t be on any list anywhere for buying, owning and carrying that gun legally.

Just realized Jones has as many title defense as Cain has wins in MMA. what a wasted career.

Should be interesting to see where this goes from here. Cain did seem like a good family man and ambassador for MMA. Obviously this seems out of charector but we dont really know any of these guys.

Don’t even need one in my state. Open carry. NY and Cali are weird lol

Fekkin NY is so screwed up. I completely agree - I'm almost ashamed to live here. But ya know Fam and Friends1st...

Normally this is true, but there are always exceptions.

The Kyle Rittenhouse case comes to mind. That case should have never made it to trial
It's not true at all. The prosecutors haven't looked at the case yet. The police made the arrest based off probable cause. In most cases, the police are going to arrest these days to err of the side of caution. The prosecutors might look at the case and drop it completely.
