Cabbage steaks - have you tried these?

Holy Shit! Cabbage steaks are fucking awesome! I'm big into BBQ so instead of just salt and pepper I used one of my favorite BBQ rubs and I'm totally shocked at how great these things are. Rub I used is Rollin' Grill "Party Dust."

I love cabbage anyways but this is amazing! I'm going to add this to my BBQ menu when I get my food truck going later this year as a vegetarian option.

Green, white or red?

I eat cabbage pretty often, just didn't realize people were fashioning it into steaks. Used to live with Ukranians and Polocks, figured they knew every way to possibly prepare cabbage.

My Russians and Latvians have let me down as well.

Looks delicious. Will look into.

Trust me you gotta try this. I love cabbage cooked pretty much in any way... I love coleslaw....or boiled with vinegar and salt. But cabbage steaks are my new favorite, hands down. Plus cabbage is really good for you. I've read that it even boosts your T levels, so if you don't eat much of it, you should. But have you guys tried cabbage steaks yet? It tastes way better than it sounds.

Just drizzle olive oil over the cabbage slices and top with garlic. Season cabbage with salt and pepper. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven until the cabbage core is easily pierced with a fork, about 45 minutes. If you like it with a little crunch to it, you can cook it less than 45 mins. You can also bake it, fry it in a pan, or grill it. It's good either way.

Also feel free to post any coleslaw recipes here.
Brooo!! I would have thought you were crazy until about a month ago! I had my first artichoke burger and it was the best burger I ever had in my life!!

I will have to try this asap thanks!!

I love cabbage tbh and this looks good. Need to try.

Hmm now to play around with different types of cabbage. Started getting all the seed catalogs this week. Maybe I'll grow a few different kinds this year

We'll be growing those once the green house is up. My property is shit for growing vegetables. Too rocky and too many hungry rabbits and deer.

So, you aren't growing vegetables, you're growing bait.

I'm gonna have to try out those baked cabbage rounds. Might be something fantastic if topped with a big schnitzel and gravy.

Ok. I tried it and here're my fixings and result...

1 Cabbage
Sun Dried Tomatoes
Garlic
Olive Oil
Artichoke hearts in oil
Bacon Bits

I mixed my olive oil and garlic and liberally swabbed down my cabbage steaks. I popped them into a 400 degree oven for 20 mins. I then took them out, flipped them, swabbed them down and topped them with the tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and bacon bits.

They were delicious! My family went crazy for them! Now I'll always have a go-to recipe whenever I want to jazz things up! I'm going to add vinegar to my steaks, because I LOVE cabbage and vinegar!

Thanks again @Agent Mulder's Hair !

As a vegan I am dying too try these...Wonder what I could use as a substitute for oil...I know it wouldn't kill me but I also tend to avoid oils..... These looks great, love cabbage....Thanks for introducing me to these dude

I gather from the article, the pictured dish is Osaka style. Is that what you usually make? My wife makes a delicious one in the style of her region, but she's told me about how every area has a different style, and when we go in April, we're going to definitely going to try it in Osaka and Hiroshima to see how they compare. I have no doubt they'll all be delish.

@Agent Mulder's Hair have you tried this? It's fan-fookin-tastic. And thanks for the idea. Despite the name, it looks appetizing.

Yep That's Osaka style Okonomiyaki in the photo. The difference is Hiroshima style has yakisoba or udon. Personally I love Hiroshima style because I love noodles. @Rebound59

Looks good, thanks for the recommendation.

Oyster mushrooms + a smoke box. Then you shred them and cook them in a skillet with bbq sauce, so it caramelizes a bit. Makes a great 'pulled pork'

Gonna try this, this weekend. I've cabbage in pretty much every way I have had it cooked/prepared.

I actually made some tried cauliflower this weekend, where I used Asian bbq spices. Came out pretty crispy, and was amazing .

I'll be very interested to compare at the source. They're all awesome.
